Patient Safety Strategy and Psirf Programme Lead

Leicester, United Kingdom University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust Full time

It is an exciting time within UHL where we are on our journey to transitioning to the Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF) and delivering the other key elements of the national Patient Safety Strategy.

We are therefore looking for a tenacious and resilient individual with experience of implementing a large scale programme of work, ideally with a working knowledge of patient safety to come and work with us to support leading the implementation of the national patient safety strategy and PSIRF.

This post is an 18 months fixed term or secondment opportunity which will allow the post holder to deliver and embed the changes required for this programme of work.

Reporting directly to the Head of Patient Safety, the post holder will work across the Trust supporting the implementation of the PSIRF workstreams, developing and maintaining systems and processes to ensure that UHL transitions to PSIRF within agreed timescales.

This role is to be responsible for delivering and co-ordinating a set of activities and resources comprising multiple projects, change activities and embedding new ways of working on the behalf of UHL staff and patients. This programme lead role will have to be flexible in nature of the work undertaken and will have to ensure that real benefits to public and patients are delivered.

The implementation of the national Patient Safety Strategy and PSIRF is a large-scale project with numerous components/work streams and this transition will take time, this way of working is very different to what we currently do in both process and culture. The post holder will be responsible for delivery of all elements of the national patient safety strategy to include transition to LFPSE, recruitment of Patient Safety Partners and implementing our Just and Restorative Culture approach.

You will be working as part of the patient safety team based at The Firs at the Glenfield Hospital site but need to travel cross site as required.

You will need to build close working relationships with CMGs and other corporate teams, ICB colleagues and other key individuals to enable delivery of the programme.

We are one of the biggest and busiest NHS trusts in the country, incorporating the General, Glenfield and Royal Infirmary hospitals. We have our very own Children’s Hospital and run one of the country’s leading heart centres.

Our team is made up of more than 17,000 staff providing a range of services primarily for the one million residents of Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.

We work with partners at the University of Leicester and De Montfort University providing world-class teaching to nurture and develop the next generation of doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals, many of whom go on to spend their working lives with us.

Our purpose is to provide ‘Caring at its best’ and our staff have helped us create a set of values that embody who we are and what we’re here to do. They are:
We focus on what matters most
We treat others how we would like to be treated
We are passionate and creative in our work
We do what we say we are going to do
We are one team and we are best when we work together

Our patients are at the heart of all we do and we believe that ‘Caring at its best’ is not just about the treatments and services we provide, but about giving our patients the best possible experience.
