Although English and Maths at level 2 is not required for the role, it is a requirement to complete the apprenticeship and need to be in place by the end of the apprenticeship. If you do not hold or cannot evidence English and Maths at level 2 then support will be provided for the successful applicant(s) as part of the Trust’s apprenticeship offer

Whilst this role is being advertised as a permanent position, there is an expectation that the successful applicant must complete all elements of the apprenticeship. Initially, the successful applicant will be placed on a fixed term apprenticeship contract for the duration of the programme. Upon completion of the apprenticeship and providing all additional milestones are met, the successful applicant will be issued a permanent contract.

Assist and support the Registered Nurse and Endoscopist to deliver high quality evidence based care for patients undergoing endoscopic procedures.

Assess, plan and implement care for patients undergoing endoscopic procedures.

Obtain delegated informed consent for endoscopic procedures following Trust policy and when trained/competent to do so.

Prepare patients for endoscopic procedures.

Administer phosphate enemas as required.

Undertake cannulation, venepuncture and capillary blood glucose monitoring, as required, to improve patient pathway, following Trust procedures and infection control guidelines.

Undertake and interpret a range of patient observations as required e.g. temperature, pulse, blood pressure, respiration and pulse oximetry. Report adverse signs to a Registered Nurse.

Airway management during endoscopic procedures once trained/competent following standard operating procedures.

Recognise and respond appropriately to urgent and emergency situations

Work in the recovery area under the proximal supervision of a qualified nurse to undertake patients observations post procedure and record them accurately implementing any remedial action as necessary.

Safely transfer patients between departments if required.

Discharge patients providing detailed information about their procedure, post procedure care and any follow up arrangements
