An exciting opportunity has arisen for an LDTM System Controller (Large Diameter Trunk Main) within Regional Supplies Team, operating across the North of our region.

Your main responsibilities will be centered on and around the Haweswater Aqueduct system however you will support the regional supplies team across the North area including Thirlmere Aqueduct, Hodder Aqueduct and LCUS alongside support for the day to day operation of Windermere Pumping Station. Geographically you will be travelling around the Cumbria and Lancashire districts in your day to day activities.

In conjunction with other LDTM System Controllers and the Water Production & Delivery Manager, identify operational problems and existing asset needs relating to compliance, condition, serviceability & optimization.

**Job Accountabilities**:
You'll be responsible for ensuring the aqueduct assets are operated and maintained effectively and in accordance with agreed QA (quality assurance) standards and procedures. Actively encouraging best practice operating standards on every aqueduct and work to improve on those practices wherever possible. You'll also be responsible for:

- Helping ensure compliance with all regulatory output standards throughout the aqueduct systems and to meet all internal key performance indicators for all works within their operational area
- Providing front line operational input and provide technical support in any event or incident situation, e.g. bursts, or problems at upstream production sites. Liaising with Production Planning, Network Operations, other United Utilities departments and external bodies as required, in managing such events
- Covering duties such as: Operational responsibility for strategic valves, tanks, tunnels, balancing flows and pressures in major pipe lines, maintaining working relationships with landowners, aqueduct patrolling, liaising with the Environment Agency and other regulatory bodies, Managing framework contractors to ensure various work packages are undertaken in a safe, timely and cost effective manner
- Taking part in an out of hours standby rota and must be able to respond and be on site within a reasonable time

**Knowledge and Skills**:
To be considered for this role ideally you'll be educated to or working towards BTEC level in Engineering or alternative qualifications and/or able to demonstrate the relevant experience. You'll be able to work on your own and within a team, display initiative and be adept at problem solving. You'll also need:

- Effective communication skills.
- Well-developed numerical, verbal, analytical and decision making skills, applicable to both planned and reactive situations.
- Working knowledge of computer systems, including Microsoft Office (Word and Excel), Sharepoint, One Map, SCADA, STS, LMP, GIS, PI Coresight, OMS and My-Risk.
- Proficient in the use of the Regional telemetry system to control assets, either remotely or locally.
- A good level of Water Treatment and Water Network operational knowledge and standby experience.
- Customer facing experience will be hugely beneficial in dealing with land agents and owners day to day.
- 'Cross business' knowledge is also necessary, as working closely with Water Treatment and Water Network teams.
- A high degree of diplomacy.
- Familiarity with site-based laboratory and Field based sampling and analysis techniques. Full driving license.

**Additional Information**:

- Manual aspects of the role include, the operation of the aqueduct valves, walking during aqueduct patrolling; generally 6 miles a day is covered by each employee
- Manual handling and lifting heavy loads
- Accessing confined spaces, climbing ladders, working off access platforms and working at height.
- If you do not hold the BTEC Engineering qualification or equivalent you'll receive training to this level
- The role will cover the Lancaster area
