A new and exciting opportunity has arisen for a Clinical Skills Facilitator at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital
The post will cover Theatres and pre Operative assessment
You will be enthusiastic about learning and be passionate about supporting and teaching nursing & ODP staff at all levels within our diverse workforce.
You should be comfortable and confident teaching on a one to one basis and in groups, to promote high quality patient care and a culture that supports recruitment and retention of all theatre staff.
A recognized teaching qualification for this role is desirable although not essential but a recognised mentorship qualification is. The post holder must also demonstrate sound clinical knowledge and consistently high standards of nursing / ODP practice in the theatre area.
The post holder will work in collaboration with the Theatre Matrons and will be responsible for the delivery, assessment, development and education of the nursing / ODP staff within theatres.
There will be support provided by the practice development team within the Trust.
The post holder will work collaboratively with educational providers, departments, practice assessors/supervisors to support learners in clinical practice to provide the essential educational, professional and pastoral support.
- To support the development and assessment of nurses and ODP’s within all areas of theatres.
- Working closely with education providers to develop programmes of education within the specialised areas of the theatre services
- To be responsible for developing, implementing, monitoring & reporting on education and training strategies in line with corporate and local initiatives and in collaboration with colleagues.
- To develop excellence in practice and promote the department as a magnet for experienced nurses
- To act as a clinical expert within the field of Perioperative practice.
- To be accountable for effective communication and collaboration with other members of the in service education, practice development teams and external education institutions as required.
- The post holder will ensure that all activities are carried out according to Chelsea and Westminster Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust policies and guidelines and that they promote the Trust values.

1. Expert Clinical Practice
- To collaboratively identify areas for promoting and facilitating the development of nursing / ODP practice.
- To report monthly on agreed key milestones to the Lead Nurse for Theatres & Planned Care Divisional Nurse.
- To support all new theatre staff - including overseas nurses to develop agreed competencies in the peri - operative area.
- To work clinically two days per week with all grades in a supportive or facilitative role in response to identified learning needs.
- To assist in establishing, implementing and monitoring Trust guidelines, policies and protocols.
- To facilitate all senior staff in the production of clinical guidelines.
- To ensure adequate education and training has taken place before the introduction of any new equipment within theatres
- To act as a lead in theatres for the implementation of all national and local policies and initiatives which include the national benchmarks and research projects.
- To act as an expert professional and clinical adviser to the Planned Care Division.
- Ensure that standards are maintained within the NMC code of Professional Conduct and revalidation.
