We are recruiting three Senior Executive Officer (C1) Policy Advisers for current vacancies within the Defence Science and Technology (DST) area of the Ministry of Defence Head Office. These posts are central to how Defence understands and responds to these critical challenges. The post holders are required to develop a broad network across Defence and wider government to influence thinking, drive cultural change and develop policy responses at pace to thorny issues that will help define the strategic direction of our Armed Forces, and feed into relevant policy areas on S&T across government

Reserve lists will be kept for 12 months as new roles may be made available in the future

These positions are advertised at 37 hours per week.

**Job description**:
These posts sit in the Defence Science and Technology (DST) policy division, with roles available in the Defence Artificial Intelligence and Autonomy Unit (DAU), International Policy, and the Exploitation, Protection, and Enterprise Policy (EPE) team. DST Policy is split between Dstl sites and London and is responsible for the policy, strategy and management of relationships within Defence S&T. We lead all aspects of policy making in S&T, either by identifying gaps in Defence’s ability to exploit new technologies or opportunities to improve the functioning of the Defence S&T ecosystem, or by leading workstreams to implement full ranging policy changes, and supporting other teams who wish to use S&T. We are embedding S&T across Defence by working across strategic priorities and aims, bringing together a wide variety of collaborators and directing delivery through our colleagues in Commissioning and Dstl.

These roles are wide-ranging but all have some central elements in common:

- The need to interpret the broader strategic context as S&T is increasingly seen as a critical driver of growth
- Security and influence - helping colleagues across the department understand and craft this agenda
- Championing technology policy to better inform strategic decision making; engaging with S&T development programmes in Dstl
- Engaging with partners, in some instances internationally, to shape common outcomes and assuring specific work across the department with an S&T dimension.

Our teams work closely and flexibly across their individual portfolios and there are many opportunities for cross-team working. These roles supervise the implementation of MOD's S&T strategy with each team member assigned specific responsibilities.
- The international role will oversee the implementation of MOD’s S&T international engagement strategy within their assigned responsibilities for a specific set of stakeholders, whether regional or organisational. The post holder will be responsible for a broad portfolio and required to engage regularly with Dstl technical teams, and S&T teams across government to strategically direct and manage their area of responsibility. Occasional International travel may be required._
- AI is a Defence-wide challenge, impacting every aspect of the department and Armed Forces with profound implications for how we work, how we develop and use military capabilities, and for the nature of warfare itself. The role within the DAU will focus on tackling strategic policy issues relating to the implementation of the Defence AI Strategy.
