Job Summary

Medical Receptionists at our surgeries are expected to work in a very busy and demanding environment, engaging with a wide variety of patients, answering telephone calls and completing many administrative tasks. They are usually a patients point of first contact with the surgery and must reflect the practices high standard of service in dealing with each patient, whether in person at the reception desk or over the telephone. Patients should find their dealings with the surgery hospitable and friendly, and feel that their enquiry has been dealt with in a way that shows interest in and concern for them as an individual, with respect for confidentiality and integrity.

Similar standards are also important in supporting the medical, nursing and other health care staff through making appointments, taking requests and messages, dealing with medical notes and reports, assisting in other administrative duties, many of which involve using a computer.

We have two positions available:
Role 1 - Tuesday and Friday 8.30am-6.30pm (20 hours)

Role 2 - Monday 8.30am-1.30pm, Tuesday 8.30am-1.30pm, Wednesday 8.30am-6.30pm and Friday 1.30pm-6.30pm (25 hours) OR Monday 8.30am-6.30pm, Wednesday 8.30am-6.30pm and Friday 1.30pm-6.30pm (25 hours)

Key Duties and Tasks include preparing reception and consulting rooms; receiving patients in a welcoming manner; answering the telephone, dealing with enquiries, making appointments and receiving prescription requests; scanning letters; giving support to clinical staff including occasionally acting as a chaperone; undertaking other reception and administrative duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Person Specification -Essential qualities include the ability to multi-task; an interest in people and offer reassurance to patients with different needs; courtesy and respect for others; good telephone manner and clear speaking voice; ability to receive and convey or write clear messages; an eye for detail; adherence to confidentiality; capacity to remain calm; ability to be sympathetic, kind and yet firm with patients; flexibility to work as part of a team at either surgery and to work extra hours to cover for absent colleagues; good general office experience.

About us

Our practice of four partners operates from two medical centres in central Sheffield - Devonshire Green Medical Centre and Hanover Medical Centre. There are also two salaried GP's, three GP registrars, an Advanced Care Practitioner, a Physicians Associate, two part-time practice nurses, a health care assistant and a team of reception/admin staff.

We have around 8000 patients, together with a large number of homeless and temporarily registered patients. The practice aims to provide high quality care to its patients and has a commitment to offer a service for disadvantaged and vulnerable groups within the community. There is good teamwork in the surgeries and each person plays their part.

- GCSE grade A to C in English and Maths or the equivalent qualification.
