An exciting opportunity has arisen within the mental health inpatient service at The Mount. Ward 3 is a male ward and ward 4 is a female ward.
We are looking to extend our existing Occupational Therapy provision in the service by recruiting two activity coordinators to work along with team to provide person centred care for people with mental health needs.
The jobholder will be actively involved in planning, organising and delivering high quality and meaningful recreational activities on either an individual or groupwork basis.

A person-centred, strength-based approach will be required to ensure that activities are tailored to the person to meet their individual needs and promote wellbeing. The jobholder will work independently with people with mental health needs who may at times require one to one levels of observation and engagement
The jobholder will communicate easily and sensitively with older people and their carer/families.
Professional qualifications are not required, but the jobholder will have experience of working with older people with mental health needs, cognitive impairment, physical disability, and clinically related behaviours that are challenging.
The jobholder will contribute to the maintenance of a positive and creative environment for undertaking activities.
The jobholder will be expected to work in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team and volunteers offering guidance and support.
The Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (LYPFT) is the main provider of Mental Health and Learning Disability services in Leeds. We also provide specialist inpatient services in York and some highly specialised services across the country. - Plan and deliver a high standard of meaningful activities that recognises and meets the specific needs of the patients promoting autonomy and enabling choice.
- The above will include managing individuals and groups of patients who are engaged in activities.
- To ensure activities are meaningful discussions with the patient, carers and families will take place and if unable to communicate e.g., because of memory loss, dementia, delirium etc the post holder will ensure the person has a “All About Me” document completed.
- To contribute to the assessments of patients by reporting presentations, changes, performance and progress whilst engaged in individual and group activities.
- Ensure that activities are provided in a culturally sensitive manner.
- To provide practice-based support to staff and volunteers in delivering meaningful activities to patients.
- To support and encourage ward staff to organise appropriate activities in addition to those provided by the activities staff.
- Organise and plan time effectively.
- To maintain written and electronic records and activity data in accordance with Trust standards.
- To contribute to the ward being age/dementia friendly and stimulating with themes.
- To be responsible for ensuring a safe working environment, conducive to providing meaningful activities
