Head of Radiochemistry

**Job Purpose**
The post holder will develop and lead the establishment of radiopharmaceutical development and manufacture facilities to support Positron Emission Tomography (PET)/Theranostic research programmes of the University, implementing field leading innovations to support School/College/University research activity.
The post holder will be responsible for the on-going strategic direction, design and development of this key specialist area supporting the School’s strategic research aims and ambition, facilitating access to Positron Emission Tomography and Theranostics research to strengthen the School’s wider research programme.
The post holder will support collaborative world-class research activity by undertaking a senior leadership role in this highly specialist area and by conducting independent research activity delivering international recognised research outputs consistent with the research strategy of the School/College and in-line with the University’s ambition. This may also involve responsibility for leading and operating the platform technology as a School/College facility.
**Main Duties and Responsibilities**
**1.** Using world class expertise in the field of radiopharmaceutical development, be responsible for the strategic direction, design and development of this key specialist area, developing strategic collaborations supporting world class research activity.
**2.** Provide senior specialist technical expertise in leading the establishment of innovative radiopharmaceutical development and manufacture facilities to support PET/Theranostic research programmes of the University implementing these innovations to support School/University research activity.
**3.** Undertake strategic review of requirements identifying Strengths, trends, and opportunities in the field through horizon scanning and deciding on future strategic direction and structure for this area of activity leading to enhanced service offerings in the field.
**4.** Enhance and maintain your international reputation and that of the School/College/University by developing and sustaining internationally leading research activity in the area of radiopharmaceutical development for Theranostics and Positron Emission Tomography by publishing in world leading peer reviewed journals.
**5.** Present research activity and outputs at national and international conferences, enhancing the reputation of the School/College/University.
**6**. Develop, co-ordinate and manage the cross-school integration of joint research projects, facilitate obtaining funding required to underpin the long-term growth of the research activity.
**8.** Undertake supervisory management of research students and staff, in conjunction with Senior academics, to ensure their effective development and deployment providing academic training where relevant.
**9.** Develop research collaborations with appropriate individuals and groups within the University, including multi-disciplinary links, and develop external research collaborations, both nationally and internationally, to ensure that research activities are at the forefront of the field.
**10**. Oversee and manage the direction, development, and improvement of the research programme infrastructure and facilities by guiding the input of University colleagues, external collaborators and industrial partners.
**11.** Contribute as appropriate to School/College/University knowledge exchange and management/administrative activities.
**12.** Responsible for attracting funding to support facility development and management of budgets/expenditure
**13.** Engage in personal, professional and career development, to enhance both specialist and transferable skills in accordance with desired career trajectory.
**14**. Undertake any other reasonable duties as required by the Head of School
**15.** Contribute to the enhancement of the University’s international profile in line with the University’s Strategic Plan, World Changers Together
**Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience**
**Knowledge/Qualifications**
**Essential**:
A1 Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework level 12 (PhD) or equivalent in chemistry or other relevant area.
A2 The post holder will have an established international scientific reputation in the specialist area of radiopharmaceutical chemistry, with a key focus on radiopharmaceutical development and production for Positron Emission Tomography
A4 Extensive knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices in radiopharmaceutical production and relevant practical experience.
A5 Knowledge and experience in radioprotection practices.
**Desirable**:
B1 Professional certification in radiopharmacy.
B2 Professional certification in radioprotection.
B3 Knowledge of Good Clinical Practices.
