This is an exciting opportunity for a senior leader with an interest in strengthening the power of national evidence based guidance and advice to support service delivery and shared decision making across the health and care sector in Scotland.

As Associate Director of Evidence you will lead work that will be used nationally to shape the decisions made, and care provided, across NHS Scotland.

You will provide senior leadership in the running of the evidence directorate, and will have specific responsibility for directing our Research and Information Service. We have embarked on a successful strategy to more closely link our work with the needs of the wider service, and are seeking an individual who will bring that service focused perspective to this role.

Healthcare Improvement Scotland is the national authority for the development of evidence-based advice, guidance and standards for the health and care service. Our advice and guidance supports the delivery of services that are evidence-based with a clear focus on improved outcomes for the people who use them.

As Head of Research and Information you will be an authentic leader with the strategic vision that will drive a high quality research and information service generating evidence to inform decision making at national level, including the production of evidence based guidelines and health technology appraisals.

You will lead a dedicated and expert Research and Infromation Service with the expertise and resources required to provide NHS Scotland with high quality evidence reviews, health technology appraisals, evidence-based advice, recommendations, guidelines, standards and indicators.

You will be directly responsible for the research and information teams (health service researchers and health information scientists), and our information governance team. In addition you will directly line manage the leads of SIGN, SHTG and DMBI, and have overall management responsibility for approximately 50 staff members.

You will be part of the leadership cohort of staff in HIS, a member of the directorate’s senior leadership team and a senior member of the Directorate Senior Management Team. The role includes opportunites to take on cross-organisational leadership responsibilities in support of the wider work of HIS.

You will be a credible research leader with significant experience in managing complex relationships between stakeholders with competing priorities.

You will play a significant part in determing the future direction of the directorate as we consider how best to use new technologies to deliver a more user-centred service. This is includes operational responsibility for the Right Decision Service platform (in the process of transitioning to HIS).

The Evidence Directorate develops and disseminates evidence-based advice for NHSScotland, including clinical guidelines, health technology assessments and clinical standards, and also provides internal evidence development, research, health economics and knowledge support for the other functions of the organisation. Although identified as based in Glasgow or Edinburgh, the location for this role is flexible.
