Job Purpose

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Research Associate to contribute to a project examining the social determinants of health and health inequalities as a system. The successful candidate will work with a team of researchers to scope the potential for modelling methods to project future local/global health ('Health Futures') and contribute to the formulation and submission of research publications and research proposals.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Conduct a comprehensive literature review examining the social determinants of health and health inequalities as a system.
  2. Scope the potential for modelling methods to project future local/global health ('Health Futures').
  3. Plan and conduct assigned research individually or jointly in accordance with the project deliverables and research strategy.
  4. Document research output including analysis and interpretation of all data, maintaining records and databases, drafting technical/progress reports and papers as appropriate.
  5. Develop and enhance your research profile and reputation and that of the University of Glasgow, including contributing to publications of international quality in high-profile refereed journals.
  6. Contribute to the presentation of work at international and national conferences, at internal and external seminars, colloquia and workshops.
  7. Contribute to the identification of potential funding sources and to assist in the development of proposals to secure funding from internal and external bodies.
  8. Collaborate with colleagues and participate in team meetings, seminars, workshops across the research group, school, college, and university.
  9. Engage non-academic audiences in or with your research.
  10. Keep up to date with current knowledge and recent advances in the field.
  11. Engage in continuing professional development activities as appropriate.
  12. Undertake any other reasonable duties as required by the Head of School/Director of Research Institute.
Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and ExperienceEssential
  1. A1: SCQF Level 10 [Honours degree] in a relevant subject or a cognate discipline, or equivalent.
  2. A2: Comprehensive and up-to-date knowledge of current issues and future directions within the social determinants of health and health inequalities.
Desirable
  1. B1: Awarded PhD in subject specialism or equivalent.
Skills
  1. C1: Research creativity and cross-discipline collaborative ability.
  2. C2: Excellent communication skills, including public presentations and ability to communicate complex data/concepts clearly and concisely.
  3. C3: Excellent interpersonal skills, including team working and a collegiate approach.
  4. C4: Appropriate workload/time/project/budget/people management skills.
  5. C5: Extensive IT and data analysis/interpretation skills.
  6. C6: Self-motivation, initiative, and independent thought/working.
  7. C7: Problem-solving skills, including a flexible and pragmatic approach.
Experience
  1. E1: Previous experience and knowledge of conducting literature reviews.
  2. E2: Sufficient relevant research experience, or equivalent, appropriate to an early career researcher.
  3. E3: Project or subject-specific experience.
  4. E4: Experience of scientific writing.
  5. E5: Proven ability to deliver quality outputs in a timely and efficient manner.
  6. E6: Evidence of an emerging track record of publications in a relevant field.
Terms and Conditions

The salary for this position is Grade 6, £32,332 - £36,024 per annum. This is a full-time position with funding until 31 March 2025.
