**The Post**
We are seeking a motivated and talented individual to join our team as a Cyber Security Officer. Reporting to the Cyber Security Specialist, the post holder will play a vital role in ensuring the security and integrity of the University's information systems and data. This position is ideal for someone with general IT experience and a passion for cyber security and information security.

The Information Security agenda is supported by an Information Security Board (ISB) and the postholder will work under the direction of the Information Security Manager in support of this activity. The University has a comprehensive Information Security Framework modelled on ISO27001 and the post-holder will be part of the team proactively monitoring and responding to the information and cyber security threat landscape.

The postholder will be required to be digitally adept and able to work efficiently and confidently across new technologies in support of ISB and emerging tools in support of cyber and information security.

The postholder will be a highly efficient coordinator, who will support the Information Security teams. They will develop a good level of familiarity with information security and will provide advice and support to other IS colleagues. They will occasionally be required to manage small projects themselves, either in support of information security or for approved projects being overseen by the IS Programme Board.

The team provides a second-line support service in their field of specialism within Information Services, underpinned by ITIL and Customer Service Excellence standards.**
**Description of Duties**
The role involves managing information security support, participating in security meetings, monitoring and responding to incidents, delivering security awareness training, maintaining documentation, ensuring compliance, managing risks, evaluating vulnerabilities, and developing best practices to enhance information security within the University.

The responsibilities of the role include:
**Monitoring and Incident Response**:

- Regular monitoring of information security activity and threats
- Examining security alerts and responding to incidents
- Collaborating on appropriate actions in response to cyber incidents
- Monitoring for attacks and unauthorised activity
- Enhancing the University's system for managing security events
- Keeping precise records of security incidents, investigation findings and actions taken to address them

**Security Awareness and Training**:

- Assist in developing and delivering security awareness and training programs
- Assist in developing and updating security policies, guidelines and procedures
- Keeping informed about current cyber security trends, threats and ways to address them

**Governance, Risk, and Compliance**:

- Monitoring and enforcing compliance with security standards and policies
- Supporting audits and data security for research proposals
- Overseeing admin account requests and reviews
- Supporting the management of the information security risk register and implementing controls

**Vulnerability Management and Security Posturing**:

- Staying informed about emerging security threats
- Reviewing vulnerabilities and mitigating risks

**Developing Best Practices**:

- Developing and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures and internal guides
- Supporting the University's information security framework
- Assisting with Cyber Essentials and ISO27001 accreditations
- Collaborating with specialist teams to improve security processes

**Security Review Group and Information Security Board**:

- Participating in SRG and ISB meetings
- Documenting important decisions and ensuring follow-up actions are taken
- Occasionally presenting at ISB and SRG meetings
- Creating regular reports on security incidents, trends, and risks

**Management and Support**:

- Assisting in managing the information security mailbox and prioritising enquiries
- Maintaining information security guidance in the IT Knowledgebase
- Engaging in security-related project work

**Essential Criteria** Qualifications**
- Degree in a relevant discipline; or equivalent qualification
- Information or Cyber Security certification

**Knowledge & Experience**
- Experience in a busy and demanding work environment, ability to work under pressure at times to produce accurate work to deadlines with attention to detail
- Experience of working in or around an IT environment
- Experience of scheduling and coordinating boards and other governance activities, including the preparation and distribution of documentation
- Demonstrable experience of writing documentation including user support materials and standard operating procedures
