**Job description**:
The Department for Transport’s (DfT) HR Advice Service provides a centralised, focal point for all staff to obtain advice and support with general HR related queries. DfT comprises a Central Department and five Executive Agencies: Active Travel England (ATE), The Driver Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA), the Driver Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA), the Maritime Coastguard Agency (MCGA) and the Vehicle Certification Agency (VCA).

The role involves you providing expert HR policy and procedural advice that is legally compliant and business focussed, to a wide range of people at all levels. You will use a Customer Request Service (CRS) system which offers our customers a web chat function as well as being able to raise enquiries through the CRS portal and by telephone. In addition, you will also provide coaching to line managers in the business with the aim of developing and improving their confidence and capability in dealing with HR matters.

You will need to have the ability to undertake research to gather and interpret appropriate information from a variety of sources. Developing and maintaining excellent working relationships with your team and with wider HR and business colleagues is imperative to you successfully undertaking this role.

**Person specification**:

- Responsibilities may include but are not limited to: _
- Providing a day to day operational HR Advice Service provision, ensuring the service is open and available to DfT staff between 9am and 4pm (Monday to Friday).
- Using a CRS system with multi enquiry channels to provide expert responses to HR enquiries from DfT staff, while ensuring service level agreements are met.
- Researching and interpreting HR policy and guidance to provide accurate advice to DfT staff.
- Providing coaching and support to upskill line managers dealing with staff on sick absence and to have difficult conversations where there is a serious concern for someone’s wellbeing.

**About you**

We are seeking someone who has experience of providing a superb HR advice service to customers across a broad range of HR related topics. You are someone who has excellent interpersonal skills and is able to relay messages to stakeholders at all levels, sensitively, respectfully and with confidence.

You are able to provide coaching and support to managers at all levels, to upskill them and build capability and understanding. You will bring with you your experience of dealing with a high volume of enquiries whilst managing your time effectively.

You are a strong team player who enjoys working closely with others to achieve common goals. You will have experience of producing and analysing data and a solid working knowledge of employment law and Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.

**Additional information**

Due to the nature of this role, you must be able to work during our core service hours of 9am to 4pm. You will also be required to travel occasionally with overnight stays. If you are not based in Swansea, there will be a requirement to travel to Swansea, which may require an overnight stay, dependant on business need. You will be provided will full notice if this is required and we will remain flexible to your working and personal circumstances.

A minimum of 40% of your working time should be spent at your principal workplace, although requirements to attend other locations for official business, or carry out detached duty in another DfT workplace, will also count towards this level of attendance.
