KEY ACCOUNTABILITY AREAS:
1. Develop and maintain the corporate and organisational strategies, policy and procedures in consultation with key internal and external stakeholders for designated areas of HSE responsibility.

2. Develop and maintain awareness of changes in health and safety legislation, best practice and National strategic developments, in particular in direct areas of responsibility, in order to deliver upto-date advice and services and maintain policy, guidance and procedures.

3. Work with HSE colleagues and line management to collectively manage and update the Force library of generic risk assessments, ensuring they are appropriately reviewed and updated periodically

4. Work with HSE colleagues and line management to ensure a rolling programme of risk assessments are undertaken and ensure relevant business and operational leads implement any actions. The post-holder will likely undertake risk assessments themselves on behalf of business and operational leads, and through appointed and trained volunteers across the business and 3rd party contractors

5. Prepare and implement HSE advice and support for Force, regional and national operations and training exercises including the development of new risk assessments in order to minimise potential for injury and sickness absence.

6. Act as first point of contact for all HSE matters, providing advice, technical guidance and practical support to contribute towards a safe working environment for all staff, contractors and visitors.

7. Support the HSE Assurance and Incident Officers with matters on accident and incident investigations and support the making of recommendations for actions to prevent recurrence. Assist HSE Assurance and Incident Officers with their compliance monitoring checks and audits, taking action to implement any remedial action.

8. Ensure any necessary HSE equipment is procured and maintained by the relevant area of business.

**CHARACTERISTICS OF THE ROLE**
- NEBOSH National General certificate.
- Qualified or willing to attain - NEBOSH Certificate in Fire Risk and Safety Management.
- Proven ability to work without close supervision, be able to make decisions and establish priorities amongst conflicting demands
- Proficient IT skills, particularly in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and the use of databases.
- Must have capability to travel to different locations across the Force and undertake all assignments in a timely manner. A full UK driving licence is considered essential.
