Due to expansion of the cardiac investigations service, an exiting opportunity has arisen for a dedicated porter within the adult echocardiography service.

The main responsibility of the job is to work with the echo physiologists and echo support workers to ensure the timely transportation of patients from their wards to the echo department to assist with the smooth running of the daily inpatient service.

Occasional transportation of equipment, notes and other ad-hoc items may be required.

Previous experience of working within UHL is advantageous.

Funding is available for a full time position, based at the Glenfield Hospital with hours spread across Monday to Friday between 8am to 6pm. Part time/job share may be considered.

To adhere to departmental policies and procedures, ensuring a quality service is maintained to patients, general practitioners and clinicians.

1. Primarily responsible for the safe and efficient transfer of patients between the wards and echo department.

2. To collect and deliver equipment such as echo machines within the hospitals

3. To transport the equipment required for the procedure to outpatient clinics or wards, in order to provide the same quality service away from the main department.

4. Adhere to existing departmental procedures

5. To maintain a high level of professionalism when potentially distressing or upsetting situations arise and on the occasions that working conditions are unpleasant e.g when attending a cardiac arrest or when there is contact with bodily fluids.

6. Effectively communicate with all patients, in a re-assuring and helpful manner.

7. Recognise the sensitivity of some of the information received and ensure that patient confidentiality is maintained at all times.

8. On occasion, deal with confused and aggressive patients, relatives and carers.

9. Ensure all equipment used is safe to use, kept clean and fully stocked.
