**Communications Officer - Our Shared Forest (Maternity cover)**

This is a Temporary Appointment to cover Maternity Leave - the role will start in late May/early June 2023.

This role is for 37 hours but can also be part-time, the job can be flexible with office working/ or from home.

The hourly rate is £14.44 (£27779 yearly salary)

We are looking for someone who has a strong communications background and a love for the Forest of Dean to continue the positive work of telling the rich story of the Forest. The post holder will actively raise awareness of the importance of the water, geology and soils, built heritage and archeology, cultural heritage, wildlife and woodlands in shaping the landscape that Forestry England cares for. Using all channels of communication to include digital media, social media, press, face-to-face engagement and interpretive signage.

The post holder will report into the Operations Manager - Our Shared Forest and will work across the Forest of Dean and Herefordshire woodlands to develop and support internal and external communications. Working closely with the operational teams and district engagement team to tell the story of how Forestry England manage the land, the successful applicant will also be involved in some high-profile projects such as the Beavers at Greathough Brook, managing feral wild boar, the future of Cannop Ponds and the reintroduction of Pine Martens to the Forest of Dean.

Essential criteria
- Relevant experience in a marketing and communications environment
- Relevant experience of developing content in all forms of media (electronic and print-based) to support communications and marketing objectives
- Strong digital marketing knowledge and skills, including content creation, promotion and social media management
- Creative flair and strong written skills, with proven experience of copy writing and editing for the web
- Proven organisational skills with the ability to work to tight deadlines and balance priorities whilst several projects simultaneously
- Ability to work independently, use initiative and solve problems
- Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to liaise effectively with a wide range of staff and partners
- Excellent IT skills including word processing, Webpage layout, spreadsheets, and databases
