The DCS ICT Systems and Strategy (**DCS-SIS-ICTSS**) team are located in Upavon, SHAPE and Cyprus and led by the SEO ICT (Systems & Strategy) Team Leader. The team provide technical and advisory support to schools, settings and Headquarters users; and manage the network and server capabilities for the MOD Schools Network.

This post is advertised at 37 hours per week.

**Job description**:
The team leaders role is to develop the DCS ICT Systems Support Strategy; lead the MOD Schools ICT Team in its role of providing technical support and all aspects of ICT provision for the MOD Schools WAN to all MOD Schools overseas and in the UK; ensure that the MOD Schools WAN provides the tools needed to be able to deliver an exceptional education to Service children, ensuring that MOD Schools are underpinned by a sound technological infrastructure and ensure that the MOD Schools WAN is managed securely in compliance with MOD regulations and relevant legislation and that the System Owner and Accreditors guidelines are implemented.

There will be a requirement for regular travel overseas.

**Person specification**:
The key responsibilities and main duties are:

- Lead and manage the MOD Schools ICT technical services team ensuring that effective strategic direction is provided in line with DCS priorities.
- Work closely with DCS Schools and Settings to develop and deliver MOD Schools ICT systems support to enable the delivery of overall strategic education objectives. Continually review the ICT Systems Support Strategy to ensure that it continues to reflect the needs of the organisation and emerging service priorities.
- Ensure that all DCS ICT systems are compliant with the appropriate data handling security standards for the processing, storage and distribution of information.
- Maintain system in line with Defence security standards and relevant legislation. Ensure the that MOD Schools WAN continues to meet and uphold the necessary system security and compliance requirements and that the System Owner and Accreditors guidelines are implemented to secure and deliver an educational platform for MOD Schools.
- Promote, lead and deliver strategies to secure value for money and continuous service improvement. Maintain the MOD Schools ICT network, both reactively when systems problems are detected and proactively to minimise the risk of system failure. Develop service level reviews and service improvement processes and conduct regular service reviews with customers and stakeholders.
- Accurately report and deliver key performance measures and ensure effective corrective actions are undertaken where performance falls below standard.

**PERSON SPECIFICATION**

**Knowledge and Experience**

Technical experience in the MOD or another Government department with the ability to develop to DDaT skill level for a Head of IT Service Management role including:

- Ability to create and lead an ICT team to meet customer needs by shaping ICT systems support strategies and managing the service.
- Ability to define and deliver an ICT system that supports the delivery of strategic education objectives.
- Experience of managing a geographically dispersed team.
- Technical experience of delivering enabling ICT solutions that meet the needs of customers and stakeholders.
- Engaging with stakeholder and customers to develop statements of requirements for contract purposes.
- Experience of producing business cases.

Desirable: You will hold an extant Service Management Qualification such as ITIL Fundamentals v4 or equivalent. Please specify in your statement of suitability.
