**About us**

The Project started in 1991 as South Birmingham Young Homeless Project and is based in South Birmingham. The Project provides support to people in Warwick and Birmingham to prevent homelessness and to maximise income. We are one of 7 Advice Quality Standard accredited organisations in Birmingham and have AQS for advice and casework in 6 areas. We are also members of agencies such as Advice UK, Institute of Money Advisors and are registered with the Financial Conduct Authority. The Project is generally grant funded and our current funding enables us to deliver the following services:

- Homelessness prevention to young people 16-25 in Northfield
- Financial inclusion services are delivered to people accessing B30 Foodbank and Warwick district foodbanks and we have various other grants that enable us to provide income maximization services to people over the age of 18 across Northfield and Selly Oak. Our current actual financial gains are just under £2 million for those that we work with.

We are a small charity making a big impact to our local communities and due to our successes we are looking to expand our team.

We are a friendly and flexible team and as an organization we take care of our employees. At The Project, employees are encouraged to learn, develop, be creative, to work as part of a team and also to manage workloads in a supportive environment.

We have an exciting new role for a Generalist Advisor to work in our financial inclusion team to support people to navigate the welfare benefits system. This is a 12 month contract dependent on funding. You will be working full time, 36.5 hours. Our main Hub is based in Longbridge and there would also be working out of different community venues in Birmingham and requirement to cover Warwick foodbanks when needed. We base our work around the needs of our clients so there could be occasional out of hours work and local travel.

The Project provides support and advice to clients who are experiencing difficulties with debts, welfare benefits and housing issues, delivering on our mission statement ‘preventing homelessness and improving lives’.

**About you**

Previous experience/knowledge of debt and homelessness/housing processes would be ideal.

As this role requires the case worker to be an outreach worker, it would be ideal for a car driver and will require the individual to self manage workloads, diaries, appointments and have strong organisational skills.

The Project is an established organisation that is growing to continue to meet the needs of our communities. As we are grant funded to deliver charitable services, the nature of our work does require adaptability and understanding of the charity sector.

**Responsibilities**

Assist clients to complete a financial health check and assess their financial situation offering personalised advice on income maximisation, including better off calculations, unclaimed benefit entitlement and debt management options.

To provide regular financial inclusion advice from The Project Hub and at other locations. This may include some late evening sessions and occasional home visits where appropriate/applicable.

To provide basic debt information, advice and guidance and refer to relevant agencies

To identify clients who require additional ongoing support and to refer/signpost to other organisations

To sign-post clients to relevant services (internally and externally)

Assist clients in producing financial statements, income and expenditure forms and negotiating on their behalf with creditors and other agencies to reduce the impact of their debt and maximise their income.

Liaise with professional, statutory, and voluntary agencies.

Provide advice, guidance and supervision to welfare benefits advisor in the absence of the Financial Inclusion Manager

Support the development of engagement of volunteers

Contribute to policy development on Financial Inclusion and related issues.

To record outcomes using The Projects case management system and commu
