**About the Role**:
The Tree of Life Programme is looking for a talented and enthusiastic part-time (approximately 0.5 FTE) **Wildlife and Environmental Law Support Officer**. The role will undertake wildlife compliance analysis and provide advice and guidance to the Tree of Life Programme and its partners to ensure that samples are onboarded compliantly, with all appropriate documentation

**You will be responsible for**:
You will be part of a small Wildlife and Environmental Law team within the Tree of Life's Sample Management team. You will deliver wildlife compliance analysis using a robust, well-established process on samples being onboarded into the programme, and you will ensure that all necessary documentation is in place before sample shipment is approved. You will provide advice to members of the Tree of Life Programme and its partners, to enable them to understand compliance requirements ahead of sample onboarding and therefore assist with planning. You will undertake administrative and data management tasks to ensure that all areas of wildlife compliance have a high quality audit trail.

**About You**:
You will be enthusiastic and passionate about wildlife and the environment, with an aptitude for detailed administrative and compliance related tasks. Previous experience in wildlife compliance is desirable but not essential, but you will have a keen eye for detail, with a pragmatic and positive approach and be an excellent team player, demonstrating inclusivity and respect for all. You will have good communication skills and be effective at communicating with a range of individuals.

**About Us**:
The Tree of Life (ToL) Programme at the Wellcome Sanger Institute focuses on the generation and analysis of high-quality genome sequences from across eukaryotic biodiversity. The ToL programme includes several projects dedicated to particular sections of the Tree of Life, such as the Aquatic Symbiosis Genomics Project, the Darwin Tree of Life Project, the Vertebrate Genomes Project, European Reference Genomes Atlas and Earth BioGenome Project. All these projects rely on an ample network of collaborations and partnerships with other large global genome initiatives.

ToL's Programme Management and Operations (PM&O) team, within which this role sits, supports the cutting-edge research of all Faculty groups within the Programme and the wider network of collaborators and partners. By providing multidisciplinary support, we maximise the delivery and scale of our Faculty science. PM&O consists of several teams supporting the following activities; team and research administration, sample management, project management and wildlife compliance.

**Essential Technical Skills**:

- Excellent IT skills, including Excel, Word, Adobe
- Ability to interpret complex information and relay to lay audience in a simplified format
- Excellent attention to detail

**Other Information**:
We operate a hybrid working pattern, mixing working from home and working from the office on campus. For this part-time role (approximately 0.5 FTE), we would expect at least one day in the office. We will be happy to discuss hours above or below 0.5 FTE.

**Salary per annum**: £31,081 to £36,000 pro-rata, depending on experience
