The opportunity has arisen for a Ward Clerkto join the Acute Medical Unit at Epsom General Hospital working full-time hours including weekends.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, flexible, empathetic and self-motivated individual to work within our team. Previous experience working in a similar role would be an advantage, though not essential.

You will need to have excellent communication, administrative and organisational skills, with the ability to liaise with employees at all levels. Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Word and Excel are essential.

You will also have the skills to handle all contacts confidently with compassion, patience and professionalism. You will be working as part of the team which will involve developing knowledge of the processes used to ensure that clients' needs are met.

The role will suit someone who enjoys working in a busy office where they would be able to work as a part of a team, as well as under their own initiative. This is an important role which helps run an efficient service but is also an extremely rewarding one.

**The primary duties of the job include**:

- answering telephone enquiries
- greeting patients, relatives and carers
- managing ward filing systems
- setting up and maintaining patient medical records
- requesting medical records for new inpatients
- To provide Reception cover and comprehensive administration support within the Acute Medical Unit.
- Working on a flexible rota basis covering seven days a week; this includes days, nights, weekends and bank holidays.
- To assist nursing staff with clerical duties relating to patient admission, discharge and transfer.
- Communicate effectively with other healthcare team members, patients and relatives.
