The Role

We seek out and sift information from many sources, aiming to detect, deter and terminate anticompetitive conduct - in particular conduct that infringes the Competition Act 1998. We work closely with colleagues across the FCA (whether in Supervision, Policy or Enforcement, as well as advisory lawyers in the General Counsel’s Division). We engage other authorities such as the FCA and reach out to industry to promote compliance with applicable competition law. We work flexibly and assist other departments in the division with competition projects.

We are looking to recruit Associates to support our work promoting competition in financial services, with a focus on competition law enforcement.

What does the role involve? What are the key responsibilities?

You will work alongside other professionals in a multi-disciplinary environment, gathering and analysing information on markets and firm behaviour from a range of sources.

You will have experience of delivering outputs on projects and / or investigations, to deadlines, in a competition or regulatory law context, for example in private practice or at a competition or regulatory authority.

You need good analytical, communication and delivery skills so that you can engage with and influence internal and external stakeholders. You will have good judgement and the confidence, drive and intellectual ability to deliver in a demanding environment. You may be working on Competition Act 1998 issues or case work, as well as on other competition-related matters such as market studies, competition strategy or policy projects, or other internal/ external engagement.

Skills/Experience Required

Minimum- Proven experience of identifying and analysing complex information on markets and firm behaviour to inform competition or regulatory analysis- A university degree in Law or another relevant discipline- Experience of working on competition or regulatory issues in a law firm, in-house, and/or regulatory or competition authority

Essential- Ability to work collaboratively and effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team to deliver projects to time- Good written and oral communication skills- Previous experience in gathering, analysing and assimilating evidence and information from multiple sources in a competition or regulatory investigation- Ability to advise and influence stakeholders

Desirable- Knowledge of competition law or economics, financial analysis and/or experience in regulatory law or policy- Experience in the financial services industry and/or a specific sector within it- Experience of delivering a competition project or market study from inception to completionAbout the FCA
