Part Time Medical Centre Clerical Assistant

**Job Purpose**:
To assist in the provision of a quality service to pupils and staff within the school setting, as delegated by doctor and qualified nurse and as agreed by pupil’s staff and relatives or guardians
**Job Summary and Key Tasks**:
The Health Care Assistant post is part-time, 2 days per week equating to 15 hours per week
**Duties**
- Housekeeping, stock control of household and kitchen supplies and dealing with laundry.
- Organisation of immunisation and medical clinics.
- Escorting pupils to appointments
- Liaison with boarding houses, medical centre nurses and parents
- Arranging medical/dental/opticians’ appointments
**Transport**
The post involves helping with the transportation of pupils to and from hospital, doctors, dental and opticians’ appointments.
**Nursing Duties**
Bed making, first aid and pupil consultations in the absence of a qualified nurse. Arranging meals for pupils in Medical Centre, assisting with medicals. To assist with medicals and doctor’s surgery. To be available to support nursing staff at times when there is a high work load. Total pupil care is essential ie coping with the physical, emotional, social needs of the pupil and relatives whilst maintaining a high-quality standard of pupil care.
**Pharmacy**
To collect prescriptions and medication from the pharmacy. To be able to be flexible within that time, when the need arises.
**Clerical Duties**
Good IT skills are essential to the post. Maintaining and keeping medical records and pupil records up to date. Completion of all registration documentation and ensuring immunisation consent forms are sent out and returned. Dealing with telephone calls in a professional and confidential manner. General filing, sorting/dealing with incoming post. Completion of billing slips and expense for the transportation of boarders

To participate in pupil care, meeting their physical, psychological, social and emotional needs as part of a team under the supervision of qualified nursing staff.
To participate in the care of pupils in accordance with the care plan under the supervision of a qualified nurse so that maximum independence is gained by pupil
To contribute and assist with maintaining a work environment that promotes a high standard of quality care, which meet the health needs of pupils and staff.
To communicate effectively and appropriately with other members of medical team and relatives.
To participate in the use of communication systems and relaying messages, information to qualified staff.
To assist the qualified staff in the accurate recording of all information on care plans, dated and signed, ensuring absolute confidentiality is maintained at all times.
To be personally responsible for attending and participating in education and training sessions as required in order to maintain professional knowledge and standards of care.
To undertake a yearly Individual Performance Appraisal with a qualified member of staff and to have a 3 monthly review.

- Clean Driving Licence

- Capability of working as a team
- The post-holder reports directly to the qualified nurse on duty.
**Desirable**
- 1st Aid Qualification
- Knowledge of Data Protection Act
- Knowledge of Statutory Health and Safety requirements and ability to maintain confidentiality of information at all times in compliance with the Schools policy.
- Ability to deal with members of the school and house staff, on site team and visitors in general to the school. There is day to day contact with members of the public within and without the school’s boundaries

**Knowledge and Experience**

**Conditions of Service**
- Part-time 15 hours a week over 2 days. Term time only plus inset days
- Cranbrook School B14, £21,728 (£7,093 pro rata)
- Contractual sick pay is dependent upon years of service. After five years’ service entitlement to six months’ full pay and six months’ half pay.
- An entitlement to join the Kent County Council Local Government Pension Scheme.
- Subject to an enhanced DBS check
- Other conditions of Service will be detailed in the contract of employment.
