**Job Title**: Payroll Officer
**Department/Business Area**: Central Support
**Location**: Longdale, Ravenshead
**Reports To**: Head of Commercial and Compliance
As a Payroll Officer, you will be responsible for managing payroll for over 250 employees, which is processed on a monthly basis. You will process payroll from start to finish and provide support and advise to our nursery managers. As part of your role, you will also oversee PAYE, Pension, SSP and SMP. You must be confident in working with a range of systems, dealing with numbers and have a methodical and thorough approach to minimise mistakes and promote consistency.
Description of Duties:
**Deliver: Deliver an amazing service, for both our children and families**
- Update internal payroll databases and spreadsheets.
- Manage the provision of Payroll, working alongside the People’s Team to ensure payroll is completed on-time with mínimal errors.
- Ensure all work is carried out within the timescales given, following any legal requirements and in line with the Managing Directors direction.
**Take Ownership: Take ownership in everything, always being honest and transparent**
- Identify and address any discrepancies, ensuring these are resolved in a timely manner.
- Approach payroll with a methodical and thorough manner to process payroll and ensure all employees receive their financial rewards and benefits on a monthly basis.
- Communicate with Nursery Managers and Senior management where errors have occurred, organise payments inline.
- Investigate any Payroll or pension queries, responding to employees and managers in a timely and friendly manner.

- Keep up to date with relevant company and industry knowledge, relevant to your role. Ensure this is relayed.
- Share any HMRC, Government, pension authority or industry changes with senior management to create a plan to implement.
- Collaborate with the People Team and Head of Training to plan training for identified issues from previous payrolls.
- Prepare budgets and rolling forecasts
- Manage new starters, leavers, timesheets, calculating pay and providing HMRC submissions.
- Manage all third-party payments such as HMRC.
- Support the provision of Payroll related reporting (weekly KPI’s and Management Reports) both scheduled and on request.
- Ensure the management of all types of leave such as holiday, sick, maternity, and schemes such as pension are completed effectively.

- Take an active role in supporting the preparation and submission of the annual Cherubs Nurseries accounts, ensuring these are presented in the correct manner and ready for submission to the accountants on-time.
- Ensure all archives are correctly labelled, stored and accessible, when needed.
- Support each nursery in the accurate delivery of wage sheets and respond to any queries.
- Support the Admin Team with any financial queries and workload where possible.
**Your qualifications and Experience**
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in processing Payroll from start to finish.
- BSc degree in Finance, Payroll or Accounting or relevant field (advantageous but not essential).
- A member of Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals or equivalent (advantageous but not essential).
- Experience processing Pensions.
- Competent use of Payroll systems (Brightpay would be an advantage)
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel (using financial formulas and creating spreadsheets).
- Solid data entry skills with an ability to identify numerical error.
- Keen interest to continually improve the Payroll service and process.
