**About the Role**:
As part of the B Grade role, you do not need to be qualified in Engineering but, having basic technical skills covering mechanical, electrical, plumbing & vehicle building skills. You’ll be responsible for helping to carry out servicing and maintenance of equipment to recognised standards and procedures, whilst playing an active role as part of the Northern Facilities Team.

You will form part of the Facilities Team for our Central region, reporting to the Regional Facilities Supervisor (Central), to ensure all maintenance work is completed in a timely manner.

It’s an exciting time to join our engineering team as we are transforming and developing skillsets, to help us get the right people, on the right units, at the right time. You’ll need to work a range of shifts, from the early hours of the morning until late at night, plus weekends and Bank Holidays, it’s vital that you’re flexible and that you live within 60 minutes’ drive of our Newton Heath TrainCare Centre.

**Key responsibilities**:

- This is a varied and challenging role, but here is a taste of what your day-to-day activities could include:

- Maintaining and servicing of equipment which, support the running of trains
- You’ll be responsible for supporting breakdowns of equipment in a timely manner
- You’ll keep our equipment in a safe condition to allow colleagues to carry out their duties
- Ensuring you keep people safe; you will be trained in and follow all the relevant Health and Safety Standards.

**About You**:
You do not need to have a qualification in Engineering, as we will teach you what you need to know, but having some basic technical skills covering mechanical, electrical, plumbing skills would be beneficial. You also must have held a full driving licence for a minimum of 2 years. What’s really important is the ability to stay calm and to think on your feet, in sometimes challenging situations.

Training for all fleet and systems will be given but you must be willing to play an active role in your development.

- Ability to work to instructions, safety policies and rules and regulations, to ensure all maintenance is carried out in a safe manner
- You’ll also need to have excellent team working abilities and communication skills, as this is crucial in this role to ensure all work is completed and nothing is missed.
- Someone who is dedicated and confident in building relationships with all sorts of people to ensure smooth running of the department
- Excellent communication skills, with the confidence to liaise and work effectively with colleagues
- The ability to prioritise and be adaptable when things can change as well as managing your day to day workload
