What you’ll be doing
You will be responsible for ensuring the smooth running of administrative and editorial processes on our lists, as well as assisting the wider team. You will contribute to meetings and brainstorms (including helping to come up with IP ideas) and you will liaise with authors, agents, freelancers and internal teams to ensure high levels of care and energy across our publishing. You will be expected to master the publishing systems and the editorial and production processes that go into making a finished book. You will work closely with the Commercial Fiction team, assisting with market research and gathering data, as well as completing administrative duties including processing invoices, updating metadata, minuting meetings, checking ebooks, and dealing with contracts. You will need to regularly ead and report on submissions, and there will be the opportunity to shadow the senior editorial team on edits for existing and debut authors. In time there will also be opportunities to look after your own backlist authors. You will be expected to be proactive and have a strong understanding of commercial, and digital, fiction plus a willingness to learn and be part of a dynamic and forward-thinking team. Ability to work smoothly with Production and understand the editorial to production process is essential.

Applicants must have excellent spelling and grammar and a sharp eye for detail, as well as a keen understanding and enjoyment of the digital and commercial fiction market. The role will be based at our London office, Carmelite House, with a blend of in-office (3 days) and homeworking (2 days) per week.
