London Gatwick Airport, United Kingdom Civil Aviation Authority Full time

**Date**:03-Mar-2023

**Location**: Gatwick, GB

**Company**:Civil Aviation Authority

**Salary**: £31,260 to £41,680 dependent on experience

**Contract Type**: Permanent

We are the UK's aviation regulator and recognised as a world leader in its field. Our activities are diverse, enabling the aviation industry to meet the highest safety standards, and we pride ourselves on our ability to adapt to the constantly evolving aviation environment.

**The Role**

On 1 January 2021, the UK CAA established an Air Safety Unit (ASU) to provide safety recommendations to the UK Air Safety Committee (ASC) so that the committee may amend the UK Air Safety List (ASL) and to provide safety evaluations to the UK Third Country Operator (TCO) Authorisation process. The ASU is funded by the UK Department for Transport (DfT) under Section 16 of Civil Aviation Act.

The ASL may only be amended in two ways:
**i)** an air carrier and/or State who is named on the list may make representation to the UK to be removed from the list. They will need to be able to demonstrate to the satisfaction of the UK that they meet all necessary internationally agreed safety standards.

**Core Accountabilities**

Providing support to the ASU you will be required to:

- Analyse and evaluate safety information as requested, to identify adverse trends which could indicate the development of a safety risk for further assessment, including helping to prepare briefing material that explains the safety implications and recommended actions
- Control and log communications with all parties referenced in the Air Safety List and/or of interest to ensure ASU has responded to and engaged with those that wish to be removed from the list or have their entry amended in a timely manner.
- Participation at technical meetings and hearings by capturing notes and actions and ensuring these are suitably actioned
- Supporting the ASU & SAFA Manager and Lead Case Handler in attending and providing updates to the UK Air Safety Committee Meetings, implementing changes to the UK Air Safety List and participation in both remote and onsite assessments with identified States or carriers and act as Secretariat when needed
- Managing dependencies and the interfaces between the UK ASL and UK TCO workstreams, raising issues as appropriate
- Supporting the ASU team in preparing for any assessments and in completing the post assessment administration as well as research specific safety events in conjunction with Case Handlers, liaising with the relevant stakeholder(s) to ensure effective and timely completion of investigations
- Be point of contact for Airline Licensing for technical assistance for Third Country Operator (TCO) Authorisations
- Ensuring continuation of the UK TCO project delivery by working with key stakeholders to define end-to-end requirements and seeing these through the stages of execution and delivery
- Assisting the ASU & SAFA Manager and Lead where required with the preparation of TCO reports and the presentation of relevant information to various business areas within the CAA or externally as requested
- Assisting the ASU & SAFA Manager and Lead Case Handler in providing guidance and training to new joiners on the framework of the UK ASL process and the UK TCO process
- Ensuring records are accurate and complete in respect of assessments
- Manages the project governance in line with the Air Safety Unit structure
- Contribute to projects and tasks as directed

**About You**

To be considered for the role you must have:

- Aviation industry experience
- Possess a level of experience in an auditing function and / or hold any Auditor’s qualifications
- Demonstrate knowledge of UK (and ICAO) regulatory requirements especially safety management systems in relation to operational safety performance and risk management
- Knowledge of the CAA’s statutory role and obligations and the ability to convey this to external parties
