**Job summary**:
A specialist is sought to assist with the delivery of the Department for Business and Trade’s (DBT) programme of export support and other export and investment opportunities in the DBT Chemicals and Plastics Sector team. A core objective of this position will be to help further map the UK based chemicals manufacturers and further develop a strategy for engaging them on future overseas campaigns and exports.
- Development of a strong pipeline of UK chemicals suppliers able to respond to international business opportunities;
- Work with a range of stakeholders to further map capabilities and contacts in the UK supply chain;
- Participation in key events in the UK and overseas promoting DBT services, and introducing international buyers to UK suppliers;
- Assist DBT in the development and maintenance of marketing material aimed at promoting the UK to international customers;
- Development of strong working relationships to support export delivery with core posts/countries and build new relationships as part of developing opportunities in new markets;
- Development of strong long-term relationships with key UK chemicals exporters, relevant trade associations and cross-Government stakeholders to support the team’s work.
**Job description**:
The DBT’s Business Group supports UK based businesses in growing their exports and international companies to bring foreign direct investment into the UK.
The chemicals industry is one of the UK’s largest industries and plays a critical role across numerous supply chains including healthcare, technology, food and water. Due to its foundational nature and role across sectors, government recognises the chemical sector is important crucial for the future of the UK economy, green growth and advanced manufacturing. As such Chemicals is a priority sector for DBT with a dedicated team in DBT HQ, supported by colleagues across the UK and overseas.
The Chemicals Team provides direct support to help the sector to increase exports to countries around the world. We also offer targeted support to bring in investors - and support expansion of existing investors - from many countries.

**Essential Criteria**
- Excellent leadership skills with evidence of bringing the best out of people and working with a range of people towards a common goal.
- A focus on achieving commercial outcomes.
- Ability to advise and up-skill colleagues on the chemicals sector, translating complexity of the chemicals industry into easy-to-understand terms.
- Excellent communication skills with experience of dealing with senior executives.
- The ability to develop first-class customer focused business relationships with exporters, inward investors, as well as trade bodies and cross-Government stakeholders.
- The ability to develop strong working relationships with the DBT Chemicals stakeholder networks beyond the HQ team such as DBT regional offices, and ITAs therein, DBT Investment Services Team, Devolved Administrations, as well as other Departments such as Defra, DESNZ and DLUHC.
- The ability to organise and deliver quality services to our industry customers including a DBT presence at key industry events both overseas and in the UK to a high standard, leveraging support from appropriate teams in DBT and elsewhere.
- Strong knowledge of the UK chemicals supply chain, understanding of the sectors which it supplies and network of contacts in the sector.

- Relevant chemicals academic qualification.
