The role involves close interactions with the dogs in our Day Care facility. The Apprentice will be expected to monitor the well being of the animals throughout their stay. This involves:

- Playing with them
- Feeding them
- Observing & understanding their interactions
- Walking them
- Building a positive relationship with them

The applicant needs to be aware of the safety of all of the dogs, all of the time.

The role involves interaction with the dog owners, both on drop off, and at collection time. Each dog owner is given a written report about their dogs day, and you will be asked to contribute to these.

As part of a team you will be responsible for maintaining cleanliness at the facility.

Requirements and prospects:
**Desired skills**

We hope to employ an Apprentice who has a real interest and love for dogs. They need to be able to understand canine behaviour at a basic level, and have the ability to develop the skill to deal with all breeds and personality of dogs. Inter personal skills are important, as this role involves interacting with the public. Owners love to talk and hear about their dogs and we expect an Apprentice to be part of the conversation.

**Personal qualities**

We expect our Apprentice to be enthusiastic, and very keen to learn. They must be reliable, and punctuality is of the upmost importance. Applicants should be personable, and confident, with a positive outlook.

**Desired qualifications**

No formal qualifications are required to complete this apprenticeship, although good written English is helpful. The applicant must live in close proximity to Furzy Paws.

**Future prospects**

We expect to employ any Apprentice who excels at the job.

**Things to consider**

Dogs are walked in almost all weathers. It is important for the applicants are happy with this.

Due to the working hours, we are looking for someone local, preferably within 5 miles.

The National Minimum Wage (NMW) for apprentices is £4.30 per hour as of 01/04/2021. This applies to 16-18 year olds and those aged 19+ in the first year of their apprenticeship. For all other apprentices, the NMW appropriate to their age applies.

The NMW for apprentices applies to both time spent on the job plus time spent training.
