This is an exciting opportunity for someone that wants to make a real difference to local communities and public health.

Barking and Dagenham has some big public health challenges, providing an exciting environment for using and developing your public health skills and career. We have the fastest growing population (42% growth expected in 2011-36) and the highest proportion of under-16s in the country. Over 1 in 2 (54%) of residents live in the 20% most deprived communities and our residents suffer with the ill health associated with deprivation (e.g. frailty ate an earlier age, amongst the highest levels of childhood obesity). But we has have significant and increasing community assets. Coming years will see the addition of film studios and city markets to our industries, and many new residents joining us in our new developments (such as our Healthy New Town - Barking Riverside). These will add to the many assets that our borough already has, and you can help us make sure they help the health of our residents to flourish

Working in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the key deliverables of the Department. You would be responsible for planning, managing and leading the operational and strategic involvement of the Public Health service block in the areas of health protection and health care commissioning including the NHS Health Check Programme and sexual health services in primary care.
