A unique opportunity to help lead the work of the Civil Justice Council, considering how to make the Civil Justice system more accessible, fair and efficient, and supporting its development.

This role offers genuine scope to develop and demonstrate broad policy making skills, to facilitate and help lead thinking and the commissioning of projects and academic work, all from a critical position at the heart of the Civil Justice System.

You will have significant autonomy in leading the day to day operation of the Council. Building and maintaining strong working relationships with Council members, the judiciary, officials, lawyers and many other diverse stakeholders in the civil justice system are integral to the role. You will need to be able to work with and value the contributions of people from a wide variety of backgrounds.

Your responsibilities will be broad and will include; planning and attending council and working party meetings and events, the production of policy papers for those meetings and wider publication, and being a public face for the Council. You will provide line management to a small secretariat team and will take operational responsibility for overseeing the Council website, Council finances, and its wider administration.

In becoming a recognised figure in the field you will be expected to remain in touch with developments across the Civil Justice System, developing and maintaining your own knowledge and supporting the development of your team.

The Civil Justice Council is a statutory non-departmental advisory body which is independent of government and the judiciary. Our chairman is the Master of the Rolls. This post sits within part of the wider Master of the Rolls’ Private Office and you will have access to the broader opportunities and experience that working within a busy Private Office brings.

With excellent opportunities to work on cutting edge projects alongside some of the country’s leading experts this post offers significant exposure to policy making and delivery at the interface of Government and the Judiciary, and the state and private provision. **The Role**
