Job Introduction

East Sussex has a well-established SEND service, and we are looking to take the next step in enhancing our joint work across education and social care. In line with the DfE response to the SEND Green Paper, we are looking to appoint a Designated Social Care Officer (DSCO) - a senior manager who will work across statutory services to ensure that we have effective co-working and assessment processes for children with SEND.

Reporting to the Strategic Lead for SEND Assessment and Planning, you would help shape this new role in East Sussex. You would be responsible for taking a lead on key areas of implementing our SEND Strategy and helping to shape practice across the broader Children’s Services Department so that we establish excellent processes for identifying and providing for children’s needs.

- Have up to date knowledge of SEND legislation and social care systems
- Are solution-focused, creative thinkers
- Can think and work strategically across the wider SEND system.

Interviews will take place in person and will include a presentation to stakeholders on a relevant topic.

The Designated Social Care Officer provides a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about shaping the outcomes for children and SEND and is uniquely placed to make a real difference through all areas of the work.
