Working closely with the Royal Brompton Hospital Operating Theatres team. Responsible as a supervisor for the ordering, receipt, storage and distribution of sterile packs delivered by the sterile services contractor and other suppliers, monitoring and reporting on their use while on Trust premises and preparing the used equipment for collection by the Sterile Services Contractor and the supervision of the Decontamination Services team.

Responsible for the early reporting and escalation of any equipment delivery failures or failures in the computer systems that affect the provision of instrument packs to theatres.

Responsible for the day-to-day management and overall performance of all staff in the decontamination services department ensuring that standards of behaviour, timekeeping and rostering of duties are monitored and maintained.

As the decontamination services supervisor, you role will involve the close working relationship with the operating theatres team, ensuring the accurate checking and tracking of all operating instruments to and from theatres to our sterile services partners at Park Royal. A good knowledge of theatre instruments and a strong backgrounds in the decontamination processes will be required as well as excellent communication skills and people management experience. The supervisor is expected to attend key meetings with our decontamination providers to represent the Theatre department and liaise with external stakeholders when required.

Communication

To liaise with the Sterile Services Contractor and Theatre and Catheter Lab Service Manager regarding day to day issues such as deliveries, orders including Fast Tracking, complaints, loans, repairs, new equipment and alterations to pack specifications.

Continuous liaison, as the first point of contact within the Trust, with the service users regarding day to day Sterile Service Contract issues
Working effectively as a team member. Participating in and contributing to departmental meetings
The dissemination of information to the Decontamination department team.

As required, will attend contractor’s premises to assist in resolving issues regarding the performance of the sterile services contract.Patient/customer care (both direct and indirect)

- The post holder is responsible for ensuring that sterile equipment packs and instruments are available for all scheduled Theatre cases in a timely manner and that any events that threaten the provision of such services are reported in a timely manner to the Theatre service leads and Theatre manager.

Policy & Service development

The post holder will assist in the writing of guidelines and SOP’s to ensure departmental practices are standardised and that new employees may be easily inducted into work practices.

Resource management

Receipt / Dispatch

Checking that deliveries from the Contractor are correct as per the accompanying delivery note.
Use of the Sterile Services Contractor’s Scanning equipment.
Recording and reporting anomalies in the manner prescribed in the Decontamination Services Agreement and Contractor’s handbook.
Booking items into and out from the Sterile Goods Store.
The preparation of used equipment for collection by the Contractor in the manner prescribed in the Decontamination Services Agreement / Local Agreement.
The preparation of paperwork to accompany the returned equipment.

Storage

Responsible to the Theatre nursing leads in assisting with the planning and organisation of the stock held in the sterile goods store.
Responsible as the Supervisor for maintaining the Sterile Goods store in an efficient manner, for example, rotating stock, quarantining of incomplete sets, safe storage methods for packs and staff and monitoring of expiry dates / pack condition.

Distribution

Responsible as the Supervisor for the distribution of sterile packs to theatres, wards and departments in the Trust in line with user requirements and the collection of used equipment and the supervision of other members of staff involved in the same.
