Trust Registrar St3-st5 Emergency Medicine

The Trust seeks to appoint full-time Trust ST3 to ST5 doctors at Middle Grade level, based in the Emergency Department (ED) at Peterborough City Hospital.
The post is designed to provide support to the Consultant staff and to enhance the clinical supervision of junior doctors (FY2 and ST1-2’s). The post holder will join middle grade rota and make a significant contribution to the service delivered to patients within ED.
The applicants should have at least 6 years post registration experience, of which 24 months will have been spent in an Emergency Medicine setting at ST3 level equivalent or higher with a commitment to a career in Emergency Medicine, demonstrated by completing parts of MRCEM/ FRCEM.
The post holder will be part of the Middle Grade shift system providing 24/7 on site cover for the Emergency Department.
Post holder will work across the full range of emergency services delivering patient care.
Initial assessment and treatment of adult & paediatric patients arriving in the department by ambulance or other means.
To carry out manipulation of fractures and dislocations, together with other minor procedures such as suturing and regional block anaesthesia
An integral part of in-service training for the junior doctors.
Supervision of FY2 and ST1-2 doctors. In addition we have medical students from Cambridge, ACPs and ENP trainees who are provided supervision and shop floor teaching.
Participation in the department’s teaching programme and appraisal.
Audit and administrative roles, e.g. Police Statements, Clinical Audits and service development (6hrs per week on average will be allocated for CPD, teaching and administrative work)
Cover for colleagues during annual and study leave will be integrated in the rota.
The post holders will work with the audit lead supervising the audit projects of the Junior Doctors and will be required to conduct their own independent audits together with producing action plans as required.

Post holder will also have opportunity to be fully conversant with Clinical Governance process and will contribute to Departmental Clinical Governance.
There are weekly teaching sessions organised where attendance would be expected (unless on leave or working night shifts).
In line with Trust policy, study leave will be provided for the post holder to pursue higher qualifications related to EM as well as some monies towards partly funding of life support courses.
The Emergency Department provides a Consultant-led service; post holders will form an integral part of the multidisciplinary team that provides Emergency Services. As part of this responsibility, the team, will, be involved in the planning and development of emergency care and the development of an acute assessment unit.
Together with the departmental management team, the post-holder will plan and develop the department’s Major and CBRN Incident Response Plans and will participate in exercises to test and develop these plans.
