Glasgow, United Kingdom NHS Scotland Full time

Applications are invited for the prestigious post of SCOTTISH NTC Research Fellow with a clinical component based at the Department of Orthopaedics, Golden Jubilee University National Hospital (GJUNH). SCOTTISH is a collaborative network that aims to link Scotland’s National Orthopaedic Centres to deliver high quality research and innovation in musculoskeletal health. This post is suitable for qualified doctors at any stage of training, but an interest in orthopaedic surgery is desirable. The post provides a unique opportunity for a highly-motivated individual to work alongside the SCOTTISH NTC Network Committee with the primary aim of producing original research and innovation in elective orthopaedic care that is aligned to the founding principles.

The post-holder will be expected to carry out both self-directed research and allocated projects from the SCOTTISH NTC Network Committee, as well as encouraged to collaborate with other researchers and elective orthopaedic centres across Scotland, particularly within the National Treatment Centre (NTC) network. In addition to producing a high volume of peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations, the post-holder may wish to register for a higher degree.

The post will include regular clinical duties at the GJUNH, contributing to the 1 in 7 day time ward rota and the 1 in 12 hospital at night rota. There will be the opportunity to attend orthopaedic elective theatre lists and to work with high volume surgeons in one of the largest lower limb arthroplasty centres in the UK.

The post is for a fixed term of 6-12 months in the first instance and will start in August 2024 but can be extended to 24 months if appropriate. Fellows who undertake this post during Higher Surgical Training may have it recognised as out of programme research (OOPR) with retention of their NTN. The post is not educationally approved for training to CCT.

NHS Golden Jubilee is open to considering flexible working options for this role.
