**Job summary**

We are looking for a full time/part time Medical Secretary to join our Practice Secretarial team at St Heliers Medical Practice. The role is an essential part of supporting the clinical team and the wider Practice. We are a friendly, busy, hardworking practice with patient care being at the heart of what we do.

**Main duties of the job**

Experience of secretarial work within a GP Practice or other NHS setting is preferred with knowledge of the referral system, medical terminology along with accurate audio/word processing skills. In the role, you will also deal with incoming/outgoing calls liaising with other NHS departments or sectors and patient queries. Excellent communication skills and empathy is required to give an effective standard of care. Patient confidentiality must be maintained at all times.
- Complete fast track referrals via the ERS system.
- Complete e-referrals and code accordingly.
- Check for, chase up and action e-referral rejections.
- Chase and follow up requests from patients and clinicians
- To assist the completion of medical/insurance records
- To receive incoming and initiate outgoing telephone calls in order to facilitate timely and appropriate communications with others, taking messages and dealing with appropriate queries
- To maintain the computer clinical system in an accurate and secure manner.
- To assist with the gathering of statistics and information when required.

You must be adaptable and willing to take on new tasks.

**Overview of your organisation**

We are a large, very busy, GP training Practice with approximately 17,800 patients, working within a healthcare centre in the heart of Northfield. We have a large clinical team consisting of 7 partners, 8 salaried GPs, 3 nurses, 2 HCAs and 3 phlebotomists. We work alongside colleagues in neighbouring practices as part of the Bournville & Northfield Primary Care Group. We are a friendly, supportive team and work to promote the Practice ethos: make every contact count when thriving to deliver excellent Patient care.

**Safeguarding **Whilst in post, Staff are expected to acquire and update their knowledge on safeguarding as per the Intercollegiate document requirements. Training must include knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberties.
