The Deputy Safety Officer at Stockport County, based at Edgeley Park, plays a crucial role in supporting the Safety Officer in ensuring the safety, security, and well-being of all staff, visitors, and stakeholders during match days and other events. This position involves extensive coordination of safety measures, meticulous risk management, and strict adherence to relevant legislation and regulations to maintain a safe environment.

**Key Responsibilities**:
As the Deputy Safety Officer, you will assist the Safety Officer in the development, implementation, and maintenance of comprehensive safety policies and procedures. This includes conducting regular safety inspections and detailed risk assessments to identify potential hazards within the stadium and its surroundings. You will be responsible for recommending and implementing corrective actions to mitigate identified risks, ensuring that all safety equipment is properly maintained and regularly tested to guarantee optimal functionality.

On match days and during other events, you will play a vital role in supporting the Safety Officer in coordinating all safety operations. This encompasses crowd management, emergency procedures, and communication protocols to ensure a smooth and secure experience for all attendees. You will oversee the deployment and performance of stewards and other safety personnel, ensuring they are well-prepared and equipped to handle any situation that may arise. Compliance with the stadium's safety certificate and other relevant regulations is paramount, and you will work diligently to maintain these standards.

Emergency planning and response are critical aspects of this role. You will assist in the development and implementation of comprehensive emergency plans and procedures, ensuring that all staff are familiar with their roles and responsibilities in the event of an incident. As a point of contact for emergency services, you will ensure effective communication and coordination during emergencies, facilitating a prompt and efficient response. Participation in post-incident debriefs will be essential to identify lessons learned and improve future responses.

Assisting with the training and development of staff and stewards will also fall under your remit. You will assist with delivering safety training and induction programmes, ensuring that all personnel are well-versed in safety protocols and best practices. Keeping up-to-date with the latest developments in safety legislation and industry standards is crucial, and you will engage in continuous professional development to stay informed. Promoting a culture of safety awareness and compliance among all employees will be a key focus, fostering an environment where safety is a top priority.

Accurate documentation and reporting are integral to maintaining a robust safety management system. You will maintain detailed records of safety inspections, risk assessments, and incidents, ensuring that all documentation is up-to-date and readily accessible. Preparing and presenting reports on safety performance and compliance to senior management will be a regular part of your responsibilities, providing valuable insights and recommendations for improvement. Additionally, you will assist in the preparation of documentation for safety audits and inspections conducted by regulatory bodies, ensuring that Stockport County remains compliant with all relevant requirements.

Engaging with internal and external stakeholders is another important aspect of the Deputy Safety Officer role. You will liaise with the police, local authorities, and emergency services, building strong relationships to ensure effective collaboration on safety matters. Representing Stockport County in safety-related forums and meetings will be part of your duties, advocating for the club's commitment to safety and security. You will also respond to safety-related enquiries and concerns from the public and other stakeholders, addressing issues promptly and professionally.

**Person Specification**:
To be successful in this role, you should possess relevant qualifications in safety management (Level 4 NVQ Diploma in Spectator Safety Management). First Aid certification is desirable but not essential. Previous experience in a safety management role, preferably within a sports or events environment, is highly beneficial. Experience in crowd management and emergency response planning will be particularly valuable.

As a detail-oriented and proactive individual, you will be adept at identifying and addressing safety issues before they escalate. The ability to work independently and as part of a team is crucial, as is a commitment to promoting a safe and secure environment for all stakeholders.
