Band 3 Pharmacy Assistant - Aseptics/ Technical Services

We are looking for reliable, conscientious and practical pharmacy assistants to join our friendly and enthusiastic team in the Aseptic Services unit at Ysbyty Gwynedd, Bangor.

You will be required to demonstrate an enthusiasm for learning and development and to have a genuine interest in pursuing a career in pharmacy technical services (aseptic production).

Due to the critical nature of our work you will have to meet the highest standards of discipline, personal hygiene and attention to detail. You will be required to work at all times within the health and safety guidelines of the department, to follow standard operating procedures and comply with Good Manufacturing (GMP) Standards
- Assembly of aseptic products in preparation for aseptic dispensing (chemotherapy and intravenous medicines)
- Decontamination and transfer of medication and associated consumables into the clean rooms
- To perform in-process volume checks as required
- To aseptically dispense sterile cytotoxic products and other sterile injectables
- To carry out environmental and physical monitoring of the aseptic unit
- Delivery of medication to wards
- Replenishment and maintenance of accurate stock levels of medicines and consumables
- Supply of internal orders using the pharmacy dispensing system
- Receipt and return of clean room clothing
- Answering telephone and dealing with simple queries
- Cleaning and decontamination of isolators and associated clean rooms

Aseptic Services

1. Work in a clean room environment and carry out aseptic manipulations involving repetitive movements with a high degree of accuracy in accordance with the training programme and standard operating procedures (SOPs).

**1. Aseptically prepare a range of products including**: 1. Total Parenteral Nutrition bags for adults and neonates
2. Intravenous additives
3. Batch manufactured products
4. Cytotoxic products

1. Competently perform transfer decontamination of materials into cleanrooms isolators and cabinets to support the aseptic preparation processes.

1. Select/print worksheets and labels for all types of aseptically prepared products including chemotherapy, total parenteral nutrition and manufactured batches and accurately assemble ingredients.

1. Following worksheets and SOP’s, assemble ingredients and consumables required for aseptic product preparation.

1. On completion of appropriate competencies perform in process checks including initial tray checks and volume checks following the associated SOP’s.

1. Ensure all documentation is fully completed, handled, filed and stored correctly in accordance with GMP and Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA).

1. Carry out validation exercises as detailed in standard operating procedures to ensure competency is maintained.

1. Competently use specialist equipment while working in clean rooms, including the use of positive and negative pressure pharmaceutical isolators, laminar flow cabinets, fume cupboards, weighing scales, electronic filling devices and specialist disposable equipment e.g. needles and syringes.

1. Follow safe handling techniques and guidance when handling toxic pharmaceuticals such as cytotoxic drugs and radiopharmaceuticals following the departmental SOP’s.

1. Competently work in the aseptic services environment following the principles of good cleanroom behaviour at all times.

1. Follow the aseptic services gowning procedure and ensure that the appropriate cleanroom clothing is worn at all times.

1. Identify and record actual and potential errors or near misses as part of the pharmaceutical quality system for aseptic and non-sterile preparation of medicines.

1. To undertake, under guidance, the maintenance and operation of equipment including isolators and cabinets where applicable. This includes: setting up, calibration, operation, assembly, dismantling and cleaning of equipment as well as interpretation and recording of completed maintenance on equipment logs.
