Part Time Learning Facilitator

Dinas Powys, United Kingdom The Awen Project Full time

**Awen Learning Facilitator (Part Time)**

**Who are we?**

We are driven by four pillars that shape the way we learn together;
DEMOCRACY: We are governed by participatory democracy, where each member of the school (students and staff) have an equal vote in all decisions over their rules and governance. At the heart of the Awen School is the Gathering, a weekly democratic meeting where items that have been put on an agenda are discussed.

ACCESSIBILITY: We believe that democratic, creative and excellent education shouldnt be the preserve of people who can afford it. That is why we will never ask parents or guardians to pay fees. This way we can make sure that we are accessible and inclusive, particularly for children that might not fit the mainstream mould of education.

LEARNING IN NATURE: By learning in nature we can cultivate a deeper understanding and respect of the world we live in. We coexist with our forest environment and learn through the intricate relationship we have developed with our surroundings. You will find us in the woods, playing, making, finding, foraging and being.

CREATIVE: We are deeply innovative, open minded and keen to explore diverse practices in all fields. A creative environment is one that understands that the process of learning and producing is just as important, if not more, than the outcome or end product

**We are looking to recruit an exceptional learning facilitator who can work with students to engage them in self-directed learning activities as well as maintain the safety and wellbeing of everyone on site. Our learning facilitators ensure that we recognise and track progress whilst encouraging self reflection and preparation for life after Awen.**

**Who are you?**

We are looking for someone who has experience of working creatively with children aged 11+ and preferably, although not essential, in a learning environment.

Our new learning facilitator will understand the benefits of being in nature and will also understand the importance of democratic processes.

Although a lot of our learning is centred around creative projects, we are also looking for someone who is confident in facilitating maths and science based learning activities.

We would also welcome a Welsh speaker, although this is not essential.

**Duties and responsibilities**

- Supporting students on an individual basis through academic or personal difficulties

**Safe working practices**
- Registering all students and volunteer attendance during operating hours and coordinating and participating in the safe travel arrangements of students to and from the school drop off
- Performing regular site Health and Safety audits in collaboration with students, establishing clear boundaries and raising awareness of potential risks
- Maintaining a risk register and incident log as per Awen policies and procedures
- Ensuring the first aid kit, water supplies, and other essential equipment is on site and in good working order
- Adhering to our Safeguarding policy

**Professional development**
- Attending regular reflection and planning meetings with the wider team and maintaining a personal record of development objectives and reflections
- Undergoing regular observations and participating in regular training as part of continuing professional development (CPD)

**Community and families**

- Working with parents and guardians to coordinate volunteer activities
