We want an ambitious and strategic thinker with the ability to exercise top-notch editorial judgment under pressure and to oversee high-quality journalism and engaging, audience-focused content.

They should have an eye for detail, a keen sense of audience needs in the digital space, as well as an understanding of how Search and Social trends, and audience data improve our journalism across platforms.

The job requires an editor who is as confident managing major breaking news coverage as commissioning on-the-day and longer-term stories that work for digital audiences from other teams in BBC Wales News.

This is a senior role and, working with the Senior News Editor, it will play an important part in managing a team and helping it to achieve editorial and audience goals.

The role will be called upon to design strategic approaches and workflows.

- Stay abreast of breaking news to commission and make changes quickly
- Use tools and techniques to identify and predict trending topics of interest, including on Search and via Social listening, to inform editorial decisions, treatments, and promotion
- Design and review workflows for Digital and Social delivery
- Collaborate closely with colleagues across the newsroom to ensure we present the best of the BBC’s journalism from other teams
- Oversee teams producing live content for Digital, including live streaming
- Help advise colleagues across the newsroom on how to plan, research and produce Search and audience trend-inspired content
- Manage a team of journalists to maximise their performance, development, and wellbeing
- Create a positive, open, respectful environment

You’ll have the skills and experience necessary for delivering high-quality journalism, with all the competencies required for managing the production of engaging digital content and advising on linear content.

You’ll have the values and behaviours which enable you to lead the efforts of a team, overseeing other people’s work and keeping them engaged to deliver outstanding output over time.

You’ll be adept at creating a respectful, productive and positive environment, and you’ll be engaged by collaboration across different teams in order to deliver wider strategic aims.

You’ll be an improver when it comes to finding creative ways to enhance our workflows and our output, and you’ll be a resolver - someone who can fix problems effectively with speed.

The role is office-based in Central Square in Cardiff. You’ll be working on a shift basis, including some nights and weekends.
