**Care Worker**
**Previous experience not necessary as full training will be given**
To carry out support tasks for a range of older people within their own homes. Supporting individuality and independence to maintain quality of life to within the individuals own home.
**Duties and responsibilities**
- To carry out support tasks as instructed and identified within an individual personal care plan, to achieve the individuals desired outcomes and prevent and delay deterioration in health, well-being and quality of life.
- To observe and feedback to the Care Co-ordinator any, and all observed changes in the service users support needs that is not being met by the individual personal care plan or assigned services being delivered.

- To use any monitoring systems in place within the service users home that are required to be accurately completed at each care visit to provide clear and concise records of times, tasks and observations made during the care visit and ensure these are completed to the required standards.
- To be able to carry out all personal and practical support tasks associated with the care plan in a respectful and dignified way and in compliance with all training, risk assessments and instructions provided by Oban Community Carers Ltd
- To be responsible for seeking further information or instructions required to carry out a task if it has not been previously given and not recorded in the care plan.
- To be responsible for reading all the information that is provided for the support of the service user, keep informed by checking the care plan provided for the individual.
- To be aware of and adhere to all of Oban Community Carers Ltd policies, procedures and company standards including Health & Safety and Confidentiality, work in line with these and be able to meet these requirements at all times.
- To deliver all support services in a caring and empathetic way in which will preserve the dignity, privacy, choice, independence, fulfilment and human rights of the service user and family members.
- To participate and assist in the orientation and in-service training/mentoring for all new staff.
- To attend/undertake all and any training and personal development currently required in the post and/or as identified during supervision.
- To support Oban Community Carers Ltd in maintaining the statutory standards required within Health & Social Care Services in compliance with National Care Standards and the SSSC Codes of Practice for Social Care Workers.
**Role Responsibilities**
- Personal care
- assisting with all aspects of personal care including:
- showering & bathing, dressing & grooming, toileting & continence care, nail, hair & dental oral care, catheter & stoma care.
- Practical support tasks include; assisting with meal preparation, assisting with planning nutritional meals, assistance and encouragement of heathy eating and assistance with eating and drinking. Assisting & supporting the safe storage of food and disposal of out-of-date foods.
- Support service users to access and attend day centres, clubs, etc.
- Carrying out general housework including washing floors, hoovering & sweeping, laundry/ironing, bed-making/changing, kitchen & bathroom hygiene.
- Safely using all instructed moving & handling equipment.
- Shopping & support by taking service users out shopping or to visit family and friends as instructed.
- Medication - administer/support, by reminding and assisting service users to take prescribed medications. Support by collecting medication and returning unwanted medication to pharmacy for safe disposal. Clear concise recording in the service users MAR chart, recording all relevant information and report any issues to management.
- Accurate recording in time of arrival & departure during support visits.
- Recording & reporting of observed changes or deterioration in the supported service user’s health or emotional well-being.
- Care staff tasks do not include any support tasks which may endanger the health and safety of the carer or the individual being supported, e.g. climbing above floor level, moving heavy objects, repair of electrical equipment, home decoration etc. or any other support tasks not instructed to be carried out by Oban Community Carers Ltd.
**Personal attributes**
- Work knowledge, skills, abilities and attributes. Verbal communication skills, ability to communicate clearly and concisely to meet the different needs of the individuals receiving the service.
- Written communication skills, ability to write clearly to ensure recorded visit notes can be clearly read and understood by others.
- Ability to work within any individuals home environment and maintain a professional conduct at all times which is non-discrimatory, respectful and non-judgmental.
