ROLE OF THE JOB

The Service

The Health Trainer Service is part of the Northumberland Public Health Team, based within the Public Health

and Communities directorate.

The Public Health team comprises 60+ members of staff including Public Health Consultants and Public Health Managers, Health Improvement staff and analysts. Included is a specialist Stop Smoking and a Health Trainer team. All who are responsible for delivering services, taking direct action, and influencing parts of the system to improve the health of our residents in Northumberland.

We are seeking to recruit 3 Health Trainers to work with communities and individuals to improve their physical, emotional and social health and wellbeing by coaching individuals and groups and identifying and initiating opportunities for change.

The post holder will work across Northumberland to contribute to improving health and reducing diseases associated with lifestyle, by supporting residents to develop healthier behaviors. The successful post holder will support the creation and delivery of initiatives aimed at residents in line with local health and wellbeing priorities.

REQUIREMENTS OF THE JOB

Main duties and responsibilities:

- Delivery of one to one health and wellbeing clinics, wellbeing groups and lifestyle programmes either face to face, telephone clinics and online.
- Delivery NHS Health Checks within community venues reaching communities with lower uptake
- Support individuals to improve their physical, emotional and social health and wellbeing by coaching individuals, groups and communities to identify and initiate opportunities for change.
- Using the principles of Making Every Contact Count (MECC), supporting individuals to make informed choices about their health and wellbeing.
- Helping individuals to find and use the right services to support health improvement.
- Recording and reporting activities and results on SystmOne
- Support development of innovative initiatives, campaigns and materials.

**Essential Requirements**
- They will have experience of working with individuals, groups and communities.
- You must have some knowledge and understanding of the main health inequalities in Northumberland.
- It would be desirable for applicants to have experience of using a Making Every Contact Count (MECC) approach.

This is a fantastic opportunity to use your interpersonal skills and gain valuable experience in a varied role. The post holder may be asked to travel across the geographical area of Northumberland County Council therefore requires a valid driving license. There may be times the post holder is asked to work outside of normal office hours including evenings and weekends.
