**PRACTICE EDUCATION FACILITATOR (PEF) - THE STATE HOSPITAL**

AfC Indicative Band 6 plus £1,591.56 High Secure Environment Allowance and £3,819.96 High Secure Clinical Responsibility Allowance per annum

**Who are we and what do we do?**

Situated midway between Glasgow and Edinburgh, The State Hospital is the only high secure forensic mental health inpatient facility in Scotland that has the dual responsibility of caring for a group of mentally unwell, detained, patients whilst also safeguarding them and the public from harm.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Nursing Practice Development (NPD) team at the hospital, working as a Practice Education Facilitator (PEF).

**What does the PEF role involve?**

The Practice Education Facilitator works as a core member of the NPD team in supporting both our substantive members of nursing staff and students here on placement.

Key areas covered by the PEF include:

- maintaining a learning environment where education and learning are seen as integral to clinical practice.
- supporting continuous quality improvement initiatives to ensure that nurses in the hospital are equipped to deliver safe and effective patient-centred care.
- influencing and enhancing the quality of the practice learning environment by providing support, educational input and development activities for practice assessors/ supervisors and nursing students within pre and post-registration education programmes.
- developing and supporting practice assessors/supervisors to ensure effective supervision, learning and assessment of students on practice placement.
- working closely with Senior Charge Nurses and Charge Nurses to ensure that placement areas meet Quality Standards for Practice Learning (QSPL),
- working alongside further and higher education institutes regarding practice placement issues
- working in collaboration with NHS Education for Scotland (NES) to support the delivery of national priorities for practice education.

**What qualifications and experience do I need?**

It is important that you also have knowledge of the NMC Standards to Support Student Supervision and Assessment (SSSA) and the Quality Standards for Practice Learning (QSPL).

Personal qualities required include excellent organisational, communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to motivate and influence others. You must be able to work autonomously, prioritising your own workload to meet deadlines. The role also requires a highly motivated individual who is able to work under pressure, and show commitment to enhancing practice education and learning. Previous experience of working in the forensic healthcare arena would be desirable but is not essential.

**What are the working hours?**

Working hours are 37.5 hours per week. Core hours are between Monday and Friday however occasional shift and weekend working may be required to meet service needs.

**Who can I contact to find out more information?**

For an informal discussion regarding this post please contact Josie Clark, Professional Nurse Advisor, The State Hospital, on 07969066552.

**What is the closing date?**

Interviews are scheduled for Monday 15th May 2023** **(provisional date).
