**Preschool Assistant**

**Purpose of Role**

To provide excellent child focused care, support and development to all the children who attend our Preschool. This role will report in to the Preschool leader and Management Committee.

Poyntzpass Community Playgroup operate as a team, this is not an exhaustive list of duties, team members are expected to take an interest and part in all appropriate roles and duties within the Playgroup.

JOB DUTIES/ Description:
**A. Supporting the children**
- To develop a knowledge and understanding of a range of learning needs and styles relevant to the children’s stages of development
- Listen to, encourage, enable, stimulate and ensure the safe keeping of the children.
- To aid the children to learn as effectively as possible both in group situations and individually, inside and outside of the playroom.
- Attending to the children’s personal, social and health needs and to attend to their safety indoors and out, both within the setting and outside.
- Developing appropriate resources, activities and sharing planning to support the children in their progression
- Assisting in the management of child’s social interactions and behaviour, record keeping and following policy
- To establish a friendly and professional relationship with children, their parents and their extended family who may pick up.
- To have an awareness of Individual Educational Plan’s [IEP]who is working on them and what is needed to support those individual children.

**B. Supporting the Staff team**
- Help provide and take part in all the group’s activities and engage in working as a member of a good staff team, follow policies and procedures
- To maintain a high standard of recordkeeping, observation and assessment that are relevant to termly feedback to parents
- To feedback to parents in a professional, sensitive manner on a regular basis and to discuss issues or problems with the leader.
- Offer support and guidance to students or volunteers in the playgroup and demonstrate good practice and good role model at all times
- To take part in regular one-to-one support and supervision meetings with the Leader, to take a responsibility for own developmental needs.
- Take part in special events and group outings, to represent the Playgroup to a high standard at all times.
- To maintain high standards of hygiene and care of the environment, reporting issues and following policy.
- To participate in the evaluation and development of the playgroup with the team.
- Attend relevant evening meetings and courses as directed by the leader or committee.
- Advise the leader, or deputy leader, of any matter requiring attention. E.g.: concerns about a child, or equipment needing repaired/replaced.
- Keep completely confidential any information regarding the children, their families or other staff which is learnt as part of the job.
- The playgroup assistant should be available to attend to any other reasonable duties relevant to the post.

**C. Working with the Committee**
- To be aware of policy and procedures, to take an active role in ensuring standards are maintained and taking appropriate action when needed.
- The Playgroup assistant must show commitment to continual professional development, and a willingness to meet ever changing standards and levels of working.
- To maintain a professional interest in the development of the Playgroup, to attend meetings and liaise with committee members when appropriate.

**Essential Skills**

Minimum Level 3 Childcare qualification.

Child focused approach to learning and development.

**Desirable Skills**

One year experience working in a playgroup/preschool setting.

**Job Types**: Permanent, Temp to perm
Contract length: 6 months

**Salary**: £12.00 per hour

Expected hours: 27 per week
