This role requires employees to complete an online Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), including The Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks for criminal convictions.

As a People Policy Writer, you will be pivotal in reviewing current policies and defining, implementing, and managing a plan to update them. You will also create new ones and archive obsolete ones, which will then form the People Policy Framework to be maintained and updated.

**Additional Responsibilities**:

- Ensure policy changes occur in the context of the wider employment framework, such as amendments to employment contracts, processes, procedures, and guidance documents. Establish and follow a rolling timetable for the review and refresh of all People policies so that they meet legislative requirements, reflect HR best practices, are streamlined and user-friendly, and underpin the organisation's strategic needs.
- Work in a highly collaborative fashion with colleagues in the People Department and key stakeholders, and more broadly, to review, refresh, and produce new policies. This holistic approach incorporates input from all People specialisms and a wide range of views.
- Provide expert advice and guidance on complex policy matters to relevant People team members and advisors across various policy areas.
- Work with the Head of Employee Relations to lead the ongoing engagement with Trade Union colleagues, including negotiations and consultations, developing excellent relationships at a local and national level, and working to achieve consensus at all times to the benefit of the organisation and its people.

**Qualifications**

**Essential Requirements**:

- Relevant degree, CIPD Level 5 or equivalent (significant) HR knowledge and experience.
- Experience leading policy change within organisations, ideally involving trade unions.
- Ability to build and maintain constructive working relationships with Trades Union representatives, both local and national.
- Effective stakeholder engagement and management.
- Ability to influence and negotiate effectively.
- Ability to structure and write workable policies that are clear and easily understood by all users.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to explain policies, processes, and/or procedures.
- Demonstrable track record of managing competing priorities effectively, working to challenging deadlines, and using sound judgement to manage situations.
- Ability to interpret complex data from different sources easily and translate it into policy and related documentation.
