This Studio Operator position is a new role which will primarily be responsible for providing operational and technical support for the audio department, linked to our upcoming new daily news podcast.
This is a hands on role, delivering a daily show, which will present opportunities for a high level of involvement and influence as part of a small facilities team.
The Telegraph broadcast facilities consist of three audio studios and one TV studio, all centrally controlled through two galleries and a Master Control Room (MCR) with inbound and outbound lines for externally supplied content feeds and livestream capabilities.
Role overview
The role of Studio Operator is to be the first point of call for all operational aspects of the broadcast facilities for the audio desk. Core responsibilities include ensuring the smooth running of the day to day of bookings, flagging issues where appropriate and working with the Broadcast Facilities Manager for resolutions.
The role will have a direct report into the Broadcast Facilities Manager for all technical aspects, and work with them to develop an integration of broadcast technology with the technology and services departments. There is significant crossover with these facilities with other departments ensuring best practice, knowledge-share and relationship development is key to success. In tune with this is to be the first point of contact for the audio team to help advise the technical aspects of audio projects and on ad hoc projects including location work.
Key responsibilities
- Liaise with Broadcast Facilities Manager for scheduling of facilities, studio setup and operation, engineering support, purchase of consumables and research/request of relevant new or replacement equipment.
- Coordinate with audio department planners, producers and journalists to schedule daily studio booking requirements and freelancer booking for absence cover.
- Media manage studio assets and work with audio team producers/editor to ensure efficient delivery of content for edit and publishing.
- Training of audio staff and freelancers including in use of facilities where appropriate.
- Oversight of audio team equipment bookings in company booking system (CLR)
- Develop the studio service offerings to align with editorial demands and future trends.
- Build core Telegraph Technology service relationships: Tech Bar, Core Ops, Infrastructure.

Key skills

**Essential**:

- Experience in a technical role within a studio facility.
- Operation of studio-based video and audio broadcast equipment and control platforms.
- Experience of delivering content for broadcast or digital platforms and an understanding of associated video and audio formats and media asset management..
- Excellent problem solving and communication skills.

**Desirable**:

- IT and Networking experience, including AOIP and IP Contribution.
- Experience operating video cameras, including remote PTZs.
- Knowledge of live event production, online streaming technology, and associated platforms.
- Experience of rigging, filming and audio recording on location.
- Experience of maintaining location filming and recording equipment.

Core facility hours are Mon-Fri 09:00-18:00 however there will be varied working hours, including weekends and bank holidays depending on the news agenda
