Our People Team combines HR expertise on the full range of strategic, operational and transactional HR matters. We have an established business partnering model in place providing relevant services to our regions and directorates. The People team sits within Corporate Services and also includes the following specialist functions: Policy, ER and Reward; Change management; Equality, Diversity and Wellbeing; Learning and Development and Health and Safety.

Reporting directly to the Head of People you will have four senior direct reports and be responsible for the following teams: ER, Reward and Policy; People Services (HR Business partners and advisors); Resourcing and Talent Management, HR Systems, MI and Business Analytics and People Direct functions including payroll.

This post could be based in our Edinburgh or Inverness office with the requirement for occasional travel to other offices across Scotland. We encourage working flexibly and therefore in addition to working out of our different offices, you can also incorporate working from home too.

**Job description**:
Reporting directly to the Head of People you will have four senior direct reports and be responsible for the following teams: ER, Reward and Policy; People Services (HR Business partners and advisors); Resourcing and Talent Management, HR Systems, MI and Business Analytics and People Direct functions including payroll.

Working in close partnerships with the relevant trade unions and key stakeholders across the organisation you will ensure the people function provides professional HR consultancy expertise and high quality HR operational support to enable the organisation to operate to its full potential.

You will ensure that day to day HR service provision is efficient and customer focused for both FLS and Scottish Forestry. You will also take ownership of service improvements and the implementation of these across the function. This role will provide you with a real opportunity to shape the service delivery as required by a forward thinking professional team and a vibrant organisation.

The post is based in either our Edinburgh or Inverness Office with the requirement for occasional travel to other offices across Scotland.

**Main Duties**

**Leadership**
- Lead and manage the People Services function
- Contribute to strategic leadership for key people issues, transformational change and the modernisation of the HR function
- Provide strategic leadership for the development of HR policies and support the annual pay review and development of reward management
- Ensure delivery of a service that is driven by business requirements, identifying process improvement and adopting best practice quality solutions to meet the HR needs of the organisation, teams and individuals.
- Providing assurance to the Head of People that HR policies, pay & reward and pensions are fully compliant and attracting and retaining the best people for the organisation.

**Stakeholder Management and Building Relationships**
- Represent People function at Staff Councils acting as a key stakeholder in ensuring effective partnership working with the FTUS and work closely with them on Employee Relations matters concerning Pay, Pensions and Policy;
- As a member of the senior leadership team, contribute to the People Strategy;
- Provide expert, strategic HR guidance, ideas and support to FLS and SF and actively coach, challenge and support colleagues through business and transformation change;
- To formally deputise for the Head of People as and when required, working with the CEO and members of FLS and SF Management Boards as well as liaise with senior staff in Scottish Government;
