Trainee Nursing Associate

North Shields, United Kingdom Northumbria Healthcare - NHCT Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust Full time

We are delighted to announce the first cohort of Trainee Nursing Associates to learn at the brand-new Northumbria Health and Care Academy at Northumbria Healthcare Foundation NHS Trust. The programme will be run as part of a unique and innovative partnership with the University of Sunderland. You will work and train within the Trust, completing a variety of placements throughout the organisation across the Trust's geographical area and learning at the Academy, taking advantage of the state of the art facilities for learning and simulated practice.

The Trainee Nursing Associate role works in conjunction with existing nursing care support workers and Registered Nurses, thus being pivotal in providing the workforce we need for the future frontline care of our patients. During the apprenticeship programme the Trainee Nursing Associate will be employed for 2 years at Band 3 and, on successful completion, will be in a position to move into a Band 4 Registered Nursing Associate post. The training is a 2 year course leading to a level 5 Foundation Degree in Healthcare Practice with the University of Sunderland and registered with the Nursing and Midwifery council (NMC).

The University costs for the programme are fully funded and it is a training programme that combines both academic and work-based learning in the physical, psychological and public health aspects of care from pre-conception to end of life.

This is a developmental role. The trainee will work towards progression into the post of Nursing Associate through successful completion of the Nursing Associate training programme which includes the attainment of a level 5 Foundation Degree equivalent qualification. They will develop and maintain knowledge, skills and competencies related to the role of Nursing Associate within the service and through completion of the Nursing Associate training programme which includes working in care settings and delivery of person-centred care.

The Nursing Associate training programme combines and integrates both academic and work-based learning through close collaboration between employers and education providers. A trainee Nursing Associate will be based, as an employee, in the organisation, in a specific setting (base will change each year) but will experience working in alternative settings in order that they gain a wide appreciation of many health and care contexts and are able to fulfil all the requirements of the programme.

At the end of the programme, the trainee Nursing Associate will be equipped with the knowledge, understanding, skills, attitudes and behaviours relevant to employment as a Nursing Associate and will work to a nationally recognised code of conduct.

We manage three major locality hospitals at North Tyneside, Wansbeck and Hexham, plus a number of smaller community hospitals and clinics from Tynemouth to Berwick on Tweed, in addition to our state-of-the-art Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital, the first of its kind in England. We also care for people in their homes and provide services from facilities in local communities such as health centres. We give people greater choice and control over their care to help them to live independently at home and avoid hospital admission where appropriate. High quality patient care is at the heart of everything we do and we strive to ensure every single patient and service user has an exceptional experience with us. We have one of the most extensive patient experience programmes of any trust in England.
