Patient and Public Engagement Lead Inequalities

This is an exciting new post that will be working on two key projects addressing inequalities improving our personalised approach to care including i) developing our ‘Vital 5’ approach to supporting patients’ awareness of health behaviours and risks to health and ii) addressing health inequalities for palliative and end of life care.

The post holder will have a good understanding of health and social care services with a specialist knowledge and experience of patient and public engagement including supporting lay people on decision making committees. The post holder will be expected to develop and deliver the patient engagement plan and evaluation plans for both projects informing design for scaling both tests.

The post holder will be expected to have the skills, knowledge and a track record of stakeholder engagement practices, techniques and approaches underpinned by theoretical knowledge from study and relevant practical experience as well as experience of project management of patient, public and stakeholder engagement projects. In addition, a proven ability to plan and deliver surveys and report on patient experience to relevant committees.

To be responsible for supporting the development and implementation of, and provide the objectives of the projects’ patient and Public engagement plans.

To provide advice and reports on patient to Guy’s and St Thomas’ Charities and grant applicants to ensure patient and public engagement is embedded throughout grant implementation.

To develop disseminate appropriate reports to track and monitor the performance of the two projects alongside their original objectives to

To monitor progress and provide assurance to the two charity funded projects, by contributing to reports to the Charity and project committees, as required by the project leads.

Be responsible for contributing to the Trust PPE Audit, as a means of gathering and maintaining information about the services currently involving patients and the public e.g. the inclusion of PPE within the Charity-funded projects.

To plan and co-ordinate a broad range of complex activities or programmes across the two projects, balancing conflicting requirements and seeking senior level approval where appropriate. This will also include the presentation and exchange of complex specialist information with a range of internal and external stakeholders.

To attend and report to GSTT Advance Care Planning (ACP) Steering Group & EOLC Committee

To attend and report to the Vital 5 GSTT steering group and relevant Patient engagement Vital 5 committees within South East London

Patient and public engagement - project delivery

To enable grant holders to develop and take forward patient and public engagement plans relating to their projects, working closely with relevant clinical teams to ensure that all relevant stakeholders views are taken into consideration in design and delivery of schemes.

To ensure that engagement plans support delivery of each charitable grant legislative guidance and best practice. Specifically, to ensure that all engagement plans, materials, or other resources, particularly those relating to patient and public involvement are compliant

To evaluate, audit and report upon the delivery and effectiveness of patient and public engagement in each Charity-funded project, as required by the projects and GST Charity grant terms

To interpret and communicate information (sometimes highly complex and/or politically sensitive) to a range of stakeholders including, patients, public, senior clinical and management staff, using complex skills including persuasion and negotiation, training, enabling them to agree and/or co-operate in culture and behaviour change
