Knowledge, Skills & Experience Required Skills in these areas would be desirable however full training will be given including other relevant trust training:Ability to work in a team and independently - Customer care skills - Effective communication skills across all disciplines of staff, patients and public - Knowledge and understanding of confidentiality and data protection in accordance with trust policy and procedures - Able to communicate effectively, and act appropriately and quickly in an emergency situation - Experience in using a PC to develop skills for Electronic Patient Records - Experience of Trakcare to ensure that tasks can be undertaken according to Trust policy and national standards - Knowledge and understanding of the Trust, including a basic knowledge of roles in other areas - Some knowledge of speciality terminology Communication, interpersonal skills and personal qualities - Demonstrate excellent customer care skills. Provide a welcome point for DCC, responding to patient, staff and visitor requests appropriately - Analyse and deal with routine non-clinical problems, following Trust policy and using own initiative to ensure a seamless support service in the clinical area enabling staff to perform in their own roles effectively - Receive queries, both in person and on the telephone and manage appropriately - Prioritise work, ensuring support for clinical staff is always available for the efficient delivery of patient care - Assist ward nurses with discharge process, e.g. updating Trakcare and transport bookings - Obtain notes, in routine and emergency situations, ensuring clinical staff have access to essential information in a timely fashion - Filing of all patient documentation generated on the ward, ensuring that notes are up to date and accurate when used by Clinicians - Tracing all notes in and out, to ensure notes can be obtained from anywhere at any time in case of clinical need, maintaining data protection and confidentiality according to Trust protocol and procedure - Provide documentation for ward, so that patient care is undertaken safely and according to Trust protocol and procedure - Accurate input of patient details including bed status on Trakcare system, ensuring follow up appointments and procedures have been booked to meet Trust and national requirements - Working Knowledge of routine for ordering on P2P and Stationery system - Safeguarding of all patients - Provide all general and ad hoc administration and clerical support to the Ward Manager or Senior Nurse in Charge, to enable efficient and safe delivery of clinical care, as appropriate to the Ward Clerk role - Follow Trust Infection Prevention and Control Policies, within the scope of their role - Adherence to the latest Trust Policy on Uniform and Dress Code Standards - To maintain stock levels and order appropriate documentation for use within DCC Education and training - Attend regular update sessions to develop and learn new skills - Willingness to undertake futher professional development and training to ensure up to date administration and clerk skills - Develop the skills to mentor, support and educate less experienced staff - Undertake all mandatory training Improving quality and developing practice - To use initiative and take the lead on ways in which the administration service can be improved and developed - Develop and share own knowledge with other members of the wider team both locally and nationally - Identify own development needs, aligning these to trust and DCC service objectives - Co-operate in the introduction of new technology and new working practices to ensure the smooth running of DCC Physical, Mental & Emotional Effort & Working Conditions - The working environment can be very busy and pressurised at times - There can be exposure to Critically ill patients and distressed relatives - It can by very noisy at times with alarms and monitoring devices and visiting members of staff and relatives - There can be a great deal of walking involved in collecting and delivering items between the three clinical areas - Requirement to work flexibly and in response to changing needs of the Trust in order to best support service delivery within area of work - Staff need to be trained in non-clinical manual handling for moderately heavy objects e.g. stationery boxes and heavy patient notes
