**TITLE**: Young Persons Counsellor

**RESPONSIBLE TO**: Senior Counsellor

**PURPOSE**: **To provide professional counselling support for young people within the school**
- To develop a high-quality counselling provision within the school’s wellbeing centre
- To provide a lunchtime drop-in service to support whole school wellbeing
- To liaise with staff and professionals to gather, receive and exchange information when appropriate, and within the guidelines of data protection and safeguarding law.

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES/KEY AREAS**:
**Main duties and responsibilities**
- To assess and manage referrals for counselling support
- To provide counselling support to identified students
- To maintain an appointment led counselling service
- To maintain accurate and confidential client records
- To engage positively and enthusiastically with students, no matter what their difficulty, in order to support them to engage and achieve
- To assist the senior counsellor with counselling and wellbeing statistics data
- To contribute to regular counselling/wellbeing evaluation reports
- To promote wellbeing within school
- To provide an efficient and effective lunch time drop-in service
- To follow the school policies and procedures regarding safeguarding concerns
- To attend meetings as appropriate within contracted hours
- To contribute to policies and procedures that impact on the health and wellbeing of staff, students and parents

**Miscellaneous**
- To take an appropriate role in the life of the school supporting its distinctive ethos and values, and actively promoting its policies and practices.
- To dress in a professional manner in line with the school dress code.
- To undertake any other duties as may be reasonably required by the Headteacher.
- To participate in the process of annual review
- To be aware of the responsibility for personal Health, Safety and Welfare and that of others who may be affected by your actions or inactions.
- To co-operate with the employer on all issues to do with Health, Safety and Welfare.
- These duties and responsibilities should be regarded as neither exhaustive nor exclusive as the postholder may be required to undertake other reasonably determined duties and responsibilities commensurate with the grading of the post.
- To undertake appropriate training as required in order to be able to undertake the duties and responsibilities that are required.

**Benefits**:

- Paid supervision with external supervisor - Please note: supervision must be taken outside of working hours
- CPD required to maintain counselling ethical guidelines can be completed within working hours where available - Please note: hours for CPD not able to be fulfilled for this during working hours must be completed outside of working hours

8:30 - 3:30 hours 5 days per week - 32.5 hours, term time only

This job role sits alongside the requirement for staff to abide by all school policies and relevant national and local requirements including terms and conditions and national standards. This job profile is not exhaustive and the post holder may be required to undertake other duties as necessary and appropriate.
