**FLOODTWIN: Post Doctoral Research Associate in Hydraulic/Hydrological Modelling for Digital Twins**

**Duration: Initial fixed term for 12 months**

**Salary**:£38,205 to £44,263 per annum
- The post will be based in the Energy and Environment Institute, which was established at the University of Hull in late 2016. The Institute vision is to be an internationally leading centre for research at the interfaces between energy and environmental resilience; with a focus on global sustainability challenges and delivering research that makes a difference. The Institute has three primary goals: to research and discover; to innovate and deliver impact; and to act as a regional anchor and beacon for world leading research and knowledge exchange.

This transformation component of the Digital Twin will be constructed within one model framework based on the existing CAESAR-Lisflood (CL) model and the BGS CL port, CLIDE, which integrates distributed water partitioning / recharge and groundwater models. Specifically, surface hydraulics are modelled via Lisflood-FP in CL/CLIDE and the groundwater component is based on ZOODRM, which is calibrated using overland flow at gauging stations. Model results will be validated with surface water observations as well as from a sensor network and those derived catchment-wide from Earth Observation. This model will allow Earth Observation and sensor data (rainfall, groundwater, flow data) to interact via model, enabling flooding scenarios to be explored an forecasts made.
The Post Doctoral Research Associate will also work closely with the project partners at the British Geological Survey and Imperial college who will develop the digital infrastructure and standards required to move, store and assess and homogenise data, and integrate these with sensor networks, numerical models and analysis.

It is anticipated that the person appointed to this post will have knowledge and understanding and experience of using and ideally developing hydraulic and hydrological models. Past experience using CAESAR-Lisflood, CLIDE or ZOODRM would be desirable, as would experience of working with large and complex data sets.

This position will be managed by Prof Tom Coulthard and the appointee will also collaborate and work with external partners in the project. They may be required to travel to conduct fieldwork or to external organisations to attend meetings/ conferences/workshops relating to the project. There is the possibility the position will be extended to 15 months if a project time extension is given by the funders.

In your covering letter please refer directly to the criteria, given in the person specification on the Job Description. Applications are assessed by the selection panel according to these criteria.
